First Lady Michelle Obama, she’s the picture of style, grace and eloquence. It seems Mrs. Obama has stolen the limelight away from her husband. With his approval rating on the decline, Michelle’s ratings have risen four points since October. But, what is it about our First Lady that makes her so favorable?

Sixty-two percent (62%) of U.S. voters have a favorable opinion of First Lady Michelle Obama, including 41% who regard her very favorably. The overall number is up four points from October and represents her highest favorable ratings in several months writes Rasmussen Reports.

MSNBC blogger writes, “OK, I confess. If a Web site features a photo gallery of Michelle Obama’s latest fashions, I click on it. Like many other American women, I have a certain fascination with our first lady.” However, she concludes the U.S. population may be a little more zealous about Michelle than other countries, China especially.

It appears Western press is overly concerned and driven by her beauty and fashion. Former International Editor of Chinese Financial Magazine, Li Xin, said, “Chinese media coverage will pay more attention to substance – what will make a difference to policy toward China rather than who [the Obama’s are as people]."

Maybe our media is focusing on the wrong attributes of our political leaders? According to Li, Chinese people do not pry into politicians personal lives. Hung Huang, a publisher and television talk show host in Beijing, said the Obama’s are to the Chinese, “just the couple who occupy the White House.”

What do you think makes Mrs. Obama so favorable to Westerners?
