MTV’s Hottest MCs list isn’t worth taking seriously for a variety of reasons. For one, 8 of the 10 rappers on the list are under the Universal umbrella. And for those that don't know, MTV and Universal are business partners. Do you see where I’m going with this?
The 2009 Hottest MCs in the Game list is based on an MC’s achievements of the moment, not an entire career. The criteria are based on a combination of mic skills, buzz, commercial success (sales and airplay), business ventures, Web presence, and impact. [MTV]
Eminem, who didn’t make the list, definitely has mic skillz, buzz, and commercial success. As a matter of fact, Em’s mic skills and commercial success is rivaled only by Jay-Z . Concerning web presence, Eminem’s long-time manager, Paul Rosenberg, is co-owner of popular hip hop news/gossip site RapRadar , and online media like the one you’re reading right now post about Eminem whenever there’s an opportunity. And impact? You should already know.
Here’s what Jay-Z , who earned the #1 spot, had to say about Eminem’s absence.
I think you do the credibility of this list a disservice if you don’t thoroughly explain [Eminem's] omission. As of this second he has the highest selling rap album of the year and a scene stealing verse on the best ‘posse’ cut of the year. ©Jay-Z -RAP RADAR

mtv deserves all the backlash that its getting. maybe next time they'll make a list of who the fans want instead of rigging the list for certain artist

Em should have been no 1 but the fact that he wasn't on the list omg to be honest mtv shouldn't do these lists leave it to hip hop sites. i love jay's music beacuse i appreciate good music and here's something for mtv, jay z and eminem's worst music is better then anything in the past years so yeah they are always going to be in my top 10.

they did do votes there was an online voting system and the nite before the list was released Em was winning it.
