A national spokesperson for the Earth Liberation Front has claimed responsibility for the destruction of two radio towers in Snohomish, Washington.
A large excavator was used to bring down the towers at 3 a.m. Friday morning, when Everett sports station KRKO was forced to switch to a backup transmitter system.
In a prepared statement, Jason Crawford of the North American ELF Press Office said, “Due to the health and environmental risks associated with radio waves emitted from the towers, we applaud this act by the ELF.”
Family-owned KRKO has been working toward adding two towers to go with the four the station erected last year. KRKO management vowed to continue with that process, while adding that the damaged towers would be rebuilt, despite opposition from some area residents and now, apparently, the ELF.
The ELF’s Crawford said, “We have to weigh our priorities and the local ecosystem in Everett, along with the local residents, do not need additional sports news radio station towers that come at the expense of reduced property values and harmful radio waves.”
KRKO General Manager Andy Skotdal said the station planned to offer a $25,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
The FBI is leading the investigation with assistance from the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.

Hey! Maybe Van Jones HAS actually created some "green jobs". The vandals who perpetrated this sabotage will no doubt be lauded and congratulated by Mr. Jones; just as he glorified the looters and thugs who burned cars and buildings in the L.A. riots where he was arrested. Then there's the added benefit of silencing anyone who may have used these broadcast facilities to voice any objections to the administration's plans for the subjugation of the American proletariat.
