Is Bill O'Reilly responsible for the murder of an abortion doctor?

O'Lielly looking in the mirror

That's what some are claiming. It was a topic on Ronn Owens's show during the 9 a.m. hour this morning (hear it in archives at www.kgo.com)  and was covered in today's New York Times.

Salon reported 29 counts of O'Reilly fomenting hate against Dr. George Tiller, who was shot to death in church last week by a "pro-lifer." The irony of that statement can be lost on no one.

Owens played a clip of O'Reilly claiming that Tiller would "kill a baby for anyone for $5,000," which was not the case of a doctor who delivered babies and saved the lives of mothers in threatening situations in acts protected by law.

While free speech groups have rushed to O'Reilly's side, many question whether he went too far in constantly publicizing the name of a private citizen, threatening and then retracting a violent statement himself ("If I could get my hands on Tiller,” followed quickly by: “Well, you know. Can’t be vigilantes. Can’t do that. It’s just a figure of speech.”)

O'Reilly also did an ambush interview at the doctor's house.

I hope someone on the other side uses the same free speech protection to print O'Reilly's address and where his kids go to school and send camera crews to harass him as an accessory to murder and a man who bought his way out of a sexual harassment suit,  the way he harassed this doctor. Just read the text of that suit and you'll know all you need about O'Reilly.

Turnabout is fair play.

The fact that you want someone to "print O'Reilly's address and where his kids go to school" makes no you better than the man who is supposedly responsible for another adult's independent actions.

I wonder if the Tiller family can sue O'Reilly?

People such as O'Reilly have to learn that words have consequences. Yes, we have the freedom to speak our minds in this country, but with that freedom comes responsibility (the old chestnut, you can't yell "fire" in a crowded theater comes to mind.)

O'Reilly and his ilk believe that they can wrap themselves in the First Amendment and say whatever they please about whomever they please. Then they distance themselves from the consequence either by saying they were taken out of context, they were just kidding, or they were simply exercising their right to speak.

Tiller gets gunned down and vilified by O'Reilly while war prevaricator, profiteer and criminal Cheney mouths off and collects his pension whilst guarded by the Secret Service with the collusion of the spineless Democrats at the expense of the TAXPAYERS...Oh, the irony!

How ridiculous! Did O'Reilly give him the gun? Did O'Reilly drive him the 150-miles to kill the doctor? Did O'Reilly pull the trigger? Stop it already. This country's behavior is becoming childish. In case any of you haven't realized it yet - North Korea is setting off nuclear weapons and laughing in our President's face and Obama is saying it's okay for Iran to have nuclear weapons. OKAY FOR IRAN TO HAVE NUCLEAR WEAPONS!!!?? You guys need to wake up and take a look out your front windows. Things are going to hell out there and all you want to do is blame O'Reilly for a lunatic's behavior? What's wrong with you people? This is becoming a socialist country and all you care about is blaming Bill O'Reilly for something that wasn't his fault. What changed within the American people from the heroes who lined up to fight in WWII (The Greatest Generation) to now. Shameful.
