The Capoeira and Brazilian Arts Festival was celebrated on June 2nd to June 6th at different venues around Calgary. The festivals main goal was to celebrate and educate people about the Brazilian culture. There were free workshops and demonstrations around various locations in Calgary that spectators and participants could have attended.
Capoeira is a Brazilian art form which, through the use of dance, music, martial arts, and story-telling, illustrates a history of oppression over many centuries. The art form was created by African slaves that were brought over to Brazil to work in the plantations. Capoeira is a mixture of various cultures’ music, dance, and martial art that is combined into one rich art form. The festival was hosted and promoted by the Axe Society for Capoeira.

Capoeira is a very unique martial art i would love to try it...against you nam lol jk
but yah i think the martial art was exposed through tony jaa's film "the protector" in the final fight seen which has caught the eyes of a worldwide audience. it's great to see aspects of certain cultures being promoted like that
yep that final scene in the protector was with Lateef Crowder a capoeirista from the US, he's really good (obviously).
