Stitched is a one-hour documentary that follows art quilters Caryl Bryer Fallert, Hollis Chatelain, and Randall Cook as they try to finish their entries in time for the Houston International Quilt Association Show.
The film, which will be released in the spring of 2011, has already won an award. A three-minute clip of Stitched won second-place in a field of ninety in the Aurora Picture Show’s annual Extremely Shorts Festival in June.
The film follows the three non-traditional quilters as they juggle their careers and health issues and try to finish their quilts in time for the show. It also features interviews with other quilters, including Ricky Tims.
Fallert was one of the first to win a major prize with a machine-quilted piece, Chatelain often paints on her quilts, and Cook's quilts often depict male nudes. All three have broken the boundaries of traditional quilting in some way and all are award winners for their skill and artistry.
