Haunted Seas launches today! Check it out: Release 2010-08-24
Charts to these ghostly locations will begin to appear in the way that all other Sea Monster Maps do: you'll occasionally win them in a pillage or by defeating an island's skellie infestation. You'll need a subscription or bravery badge, depending on your ocean, to chart to a Haunted Seas league point or to voyage on a ship so charted.
As Cursed Isles are the domain of Vargas the Mad, Haunted Seas are also ruled by a Brigand King: Barnabas the Pale. His ghost fleet will harry your passage through his demesne, spawning phantasms that will board your ship and make your duties more difficult. These phantasms wield ghostly swords that clutter your SF board with Spectral Blocks (the official name for the purple blocks previously announced) which harden into unbreakable obstacles.
Win through to the ship graveyard to battle Barnabas himself along with his host of ghouls for a chance to haul untold treasure from the deeps!
(Other updates of note included with this release: you may now order player-created banners at furnishers, movement tokens no longer decay during the Atlantean Citadel battle, PvP battles will be rumble if the better-navigating ship is hunting barbarians. There will be other adjustments to existing features; see the release notes for details.)
