Terry Rigelhof was born and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan. He has called Westmount, Quebec home since 1973. He’s been a contributing reviewer to the Globe and Mail for more than twenty years and has written nine books, including his most recent, “Hooked on Canadian Books: The Good, the Better, and the Best Canadian Novels Since 1984”. (Cormorant Books).
Rigelhof’s love of Canadian books is evident in his reviews and in his most recent book where he reviews what he likes in Canadian literature, rather than what he hates, which is a refreshing change. His focus on Canadian talent in a positive, informative light brings a much needed focus on Canadian literature.
Not just a reviewer, Rigelhof has exhibited great talent as a writer as well. His first novel, “The Education of J.J. Pass”, has been called one of the best coming-of-age novels written by a Canadian.
He has also served as a juror for many literary awards including the Governor General's Literary Awards, the QSPELL Literary Awards, the Saskatchewan Book Awards, the Alberta Book Awards, the Books in Canada/Amazon First Novel Award and the Danuta Gleed Literary Prize.
Rigelhof’s critically acclaimed short stories about contemporary life in Montreal have been anthologized into “Je t’aime, Cowboy” and adapted for television.
Recently retired from a long career as a Humanities teacher at Dawson College, Rigelhof now writes full time.
