Adam Lambert in bottom three! Was great PR bad for American Idol favorite?

Adam Lambert landed in the bottom three on American Idol results show after the Rat Pack theme. The live audience was visibly and audibly shocked when Ryan Seacrest announced that Kris Allen was saved -- putting Adam in the bottom two with Matt. What happened?

Did the great PR and momentum for Adam by the Idol judges: Simon, Paula, Kara and Randy along with the blogs, columnists, broadcasters, Vegas handicappers, and office worker-water cooler fans create a telephone/text apathy? Was everyone convinced that he was such a shoe-in that they could vote for their second favorite?

Great PR is meaningless unless it moves people to action. Adam Lambert had the excitement and enthusiasm but not the votes from the audience. More than "We Love Adam" campaigns -- his fans must get behind "Vote for Adam" campaigns in order to help him (or any other American Idol contestant) treach the goal of winning. PR must be purposeful to succeed.

Noooo!!! Adam is the only reason I watch American Idol. He's the first contestant that is more than a pop-picture-perfect fit for the "business." I don't think there has yet been as original of a contestant. Here's to hoping he makes it out of the bottom 3...

It took David Cook to get me to even consider watching Idol again. They lost a lot of viewers many seasons ago and have been trying to "change things up" to get those viewers back. I came into this season a Danny fan, but was quickly converted to Adam. He is the superior talent without question. The problem with Idol is, they usually get it wrong. If Idol was not rigged for ratings because it was SO OBVIOUS since the top ten started that Adam would win, then this means HIS (Adam's) fans got lazy and weren't voting like they should because he was such a clear front winner. I think they need to change the voting anyway. It should be more like Dancing with the Stars. Half the votes come from the viewers and half the judges. You would have more consistency in the winners. Last but not least the "save" they used on Matt was ridiculous. Going into the finals is when a saved should be used. Simon ALWAYS gets it right and he clearly stated Matt could not win so why save him. This was the first time I (and many of my over 40 girlfriends) actually considered going to an Americal Idol tour to see this young man (Adam) Look up the Los Angeles times article on his mid range voice, the transition from chest to head resonation and read how many people in the world now or EVER have that kind of talent, range, and transition. Then you will realize what you are seeing in this extraordinary young man. He doesn't really need Idol now, but it would be nice if IDOL could finally take credit for someone like him.

It wasn't as shocking as when Chris Daughtry got bumped before Taylor Hicks' win a few seasons ago. Daughtry's double-take was hilarious as they called his name!

Well, look at the professional outcome: Hicks seems to be asleep somewhere, while Daughtry packs stadiums.

Adam Lambert is part Elvis, Robert Plant, Bono and Geddy Lee, with his own modern twist. His vocal talents are powered by a calm and unerring intellect. But his instinct for music hones each song's emotional core into a razor that cuts to the soul.

The previous week Lambert sung "If I Can't Have You," which propels his now-inevitable rocket to stardom beyond the atmosphere. Amazingly, he brings Harry Nilsson's soaring pathos ("Without You") to what we all thought of as a disco song. Nilsson, Schmilsson, this is an incredible performance.

But after Lambert delivered his unique rendition of this dance classic, I realized it had always been misperformed! It never was and never should have been a dance song. It's a lovelorn cry that always deserved the caliber of Lambert's performance: intense need, sadness and pain-drenched yet lofty vocals. (Lambert's range and ability to soar and sustain also remind me of Nilsson's.)

As Hendrix did with Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower," Lambert totally redefined this song, totally owning it and reining its true emotion and meaning back in line with the performance.

My only gripes with Lambert's performances:
    1) He sometimes edges into a screech with the high vocals.
    2) His over-the-top antics sometimes overshadow the vocals.

    Oh, well--nobody's perfect.

If you think Carrie Underwood and Chris Daughtry rose to fame quickly after their Idol stints, watch Lambert. He's a sniper bullet compared with freight trains.

ADAM Fans. Wake up! How this happened? Don't split your votes. Those fans of the eliminated contestants are not voting him. So concentrate on One only. Do not abandon him again...
