MARTA gets way smarter if you know where to park your car for free and ride the train into the city for major events and other destinations that are easy to get to on MARTA.  Here are the top five stations that are easy to park at, and some even offer the perk of long-term parking if you are traveling to the airport.

5. W5 H.E. Holmes/E8 Kensington
These two stations represent the east/west end of the line (or near the end of the line) stations, great if you live outside the perimeter.  Kensington (see map) is near I-285 on the east side (closest to Stone Mountain and Lawrenceville area) and has free daily parking and paid long-term parking at $5/day.  On the opposite end, H.E. Holmes is near the intersection of West I-285 and I-20 and has free daily parking.

4. S2 West End (see map)
If you live south of downtown, the West End free daily parking is the closest you can get to downtown Atlanta.  It is only two stops away from Five Points.

3. E3 Inman Park/E4 Candler Park (see map)
If you live east of the city and are traveling to downtown for an event, these two stations offer free lots near downtown.  Recommended for riders who live inside the perimeter and who also live in the vicinity of Decatur, Virginia Highland, Morningside, Candler Park, Inman Park, East Atlanta, Kirkwood, Oakhurst, Druid Hills. All eastbound trains stop at these stations, which reduces your commute time.

2. N11 North Springs/NE10 Doraville
The end of the line stations in the north of the city also offer free daily parking AND paid long-term parking at $8/day -- great for going to the airport. The Doraville station is closest to Norcross and Duluth, while North Springs has its own exit off of Georgia 400, and is the closest to Roswell and Alpharetta.  The Sandy Springs station is probably easier to get to if you don't live up 400, and also has long-term and daily parking.

1. N6 Lindbergh (see map)
Lindbergh has several free parking garages and a paid long-term parking area at $8/day, and is a short hop off of I-85 and Georgia 400.  You can easily get to airport trains as well as both North Springs and Doraville trains.  It is a great place to park if you live near Midtown, Buckhead, Emory, North Druid Hills and are going to the High Museum, Fox Theatre, Georgia Tech's Bobby Dodd Stadium, Philips Arena/Georgia Dome or the airport

HELLO I AM LOOKING FOR HELP.... I LIVE IN THE ATHENS AREA AND AM LOOKING TO SEE IF MARTA IS THE BEST ROUTE FOR ME TO GET TO THE GEORGIA DOME FOR THE MONSTER JAM THIS WEEKEND. I SEE ON A FEW DIFFERENT LOCATIONS THAT IT IS $8.00 TO PARK IS THIS CORRECT? I ALSO SEE IT ON A FEW OTHER PAGES $2.00 PER PERSON FOR MART AND $1.75 PER PERSON WHAT IS THE CORRECT ONE? ALSO I HAVE 4 YEAR OLD DO THEY HAVE TO PAY ALSO FOR THEM TO GET ON MARTA OR IS THERE A BREAKDOWN FOR CHILDREN??

PLEASE ADVISE TO WHICH IS THE BEST LOCATION TO JUMP ON THE TRAIN AT? AND WHAT THE EXACT COST IS FOR ENTRY ON MARTA? WHERE I CAN PARK THAT IS FREE?

THANKS PROMPTNESS WOULD BE APPRECIATED!!!! :-)

  • I'm sorry I'm just now seeing your message. One-way fares are currently $2 after a change in the past couple years. One-way fares are going up to $2.50 starting Oct. 2, 2011. Children under 46 inches are free if riding with a paying adult. From Athens, you'd probably be coming on I-85. The closest station off the interstate is Doraville, though a fairly long ride, but easy to get in an out of. The address is 6000 New Peachtree Road, Doraville, GA.

Daily parking is free at all the station that have parking. You just can't park overnight. Long-term parking is available at some stations for a fee.

Thanks for this information. Being a tourist from VT it was a great help to find the closest to Stone MT and not have to drive into the city for a visit.
