Although he claims that enforcing immigration laws is vital to national security and public safety, the Assistant Secretary of Immigration and Customs Enforcement -- known as ICE -- circulated an internal memo ordering officers not to arrest a broad range of illegal aliens he deems immune from “mandatory detention,” according to watchdog public-interest group Judicial Watch.
According to a report obtained by the 14,000-member National Association of Chiefs of Police, field office directors “should not expend detention resources on aliens who are known to be suffering from serious physical or mental illness, or who are disabled, elderly, pregnant, or nursing, or demonstrate that they are primary caretakers of children or an infirm person, or whose detention is otherwise not in the public interest,” according to a memorandum issued by ICE Assistant Secretary John Morton.
That’s because the Homeland Security agency has “limited resources” and must prioritize the use of its enforcement personnel and detention space. Therefore, illegal immigrants that fall into the above referenced category are “not subject to mandatory detention,” according to Morton, who also writes that “particular care” should be given when dealing with the immediate family members of
Morton further points out in the four-page memo that the agency only has the resources to remove less than 4% of undocumented people living in the

While denigrating the citizens of Arizona, President Barack Obama and his so-called national-security team have never commented on "sanctuary city" policies in Los Angeles, New York and other locations, that are indeed a violation of federal immigration law.
In addition, the Obama Administration recently appointed a police chief -- Harold Hurtt, who believes in illegal alien sanctuary city policies -- to command an immigration enforcement program that entails federal agents working with local police departments on cases involving illegal aliens.
As part of the Homeland Security Department's anti-terrorism mission, the new director for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Office of State and Local Coordination is now Hurtt, an outspoken critic of immigration enforcement on the local level such as Arizona's new immigration enforcement law.
"Officials who call their city a 'sanctuary city' for illegal aliens is basically aiding and abetting federal crimes Add the other crimes committed as a result of illegal aliens -- identity theft, counterfeiting driver's licenses, social security cards, and other identity documents -- and suddenly you're talking about government corruption in those cities," said former NYPD police detective and military intelligence officer Sid Franes.
"If you ask me, the Obama administration is attacking the wrong people. But I'm not surprised... liberal-left politicians always side with criminals, terrorists and other malefactors," said Det. Franes.
"Arizonians are understandably frustrated with illegal immigration and the federal government has a responsibility to comprehensively address those concerns," Holder said after filing the lawsuit in
Not surprisingly, Holder didn’t address the shameful ICE memo that reveals the federal government is in fact ignoring its responsibility when it comes to immigration enforcement. That means more states will probably follow

Homeland Security does not have enough resources to do its job? John Morton is a liar.
The ICE agents I have had the unfortunate opportunity to meet are the biggest bunch of useless, incompetent, arrogant, and self-indulged fools that I have ever met and they are led by an even bigger useless leader. They will not do their job no matter how many times they are given specific information. It is the same bunch that are chiefly responsible for 9-11 because they did not do their job.
So according to this article John Morton has taken illegal immigration is off the table. ICE and should be reassigned to school-crossing guards, wait, thats not a good idea because then they would put our kids at risk. It may be better if we just deport the bunch of them along with Janet.
This is stealth amnesty through administrative action. These groups won't be the last to get this free ride, but they will be the most expensive. American taxpayers are now on the hook to provide free medical care to anyone who can get across our border.
Everyone should understand what's really going on here. Amnesty has arrived without legislative approval and with no conditions.
This law is OBVIOUSLY unconstitutional. I mean ridiculously so. Only someone with a biased mind can't see how this law discriminates. You think a police officer has a right to ask you if your are a homosexual when he stops you, that's a status. You can't just look at a person and tell they are gay. Right? So why an illegal. Check this story out, it talks about how the justice department is going to dismantle the Arizona law, and the guy who wrote it predicted the grounds of the suit too

Spencer, schmuck, can't you read? Officers who stop someone for an act such as traffic violation or larceny may ask a suspect about his/her IMMIGRATION status. You don't have to worry. The cops won't go after gays and lesbians. You're safe.
spencer, are you REALLY comparing a person that comes into our country ILLEGALY & steals someones identity, steals our jobs, costs us our hospitals, our childrens educations, gets fake ss #'s, doesnt pay taxes but gets freebies, some commit crimes like murder, rape etc.,they run into our cars but dont carry any insurance, so we lose there too.....do you REALLY compare this & tons more, to what someone does in the privacy of their own bedroom??? Sounds like you are a homophobe...thats sad.
also, what do you have to hide, if it scares you so badly to show i.d.??? Most, if not all Americans carry some form of I.D., and it doesnt seem to bother any of us to show them. So whats the big whoop for anyone to show theirs....oh, maybe cause they are illegal...do you get it now? If your against AZ. & others, Your an illegal or your protecting someone who is...
What we have here is a failure to communicate.
The syntax of the ICE memo in question does not make anyone "'immune' from mandatory detention."
It says that the elderly, pregnant, mentally ill, etc. should be low priority UNLESS they are subject to the laws requiring mandatory detention.
You can read it yourself on the ICE website.
