Today was the first day of the 1st European Summit on Measurement . The Summit is being presented by The International Association for Measurement and Evaluation of Communication, and The Institute for Public Relations, and offers leaders in the field of media evaluation and communication research from around the globe, the opportunity to gather together to share insights, learn from one and other, and network.
Today's schedule included introductory workshops regarding the Basic Principles of Measurement, as well as an intermediate level workshop on the Price of Content by Jeremy Thompson of Durrants. Thompson noted that everyone should pay for content (and will pay for content in the future); however the issue is coming to a fair price.
Everyone came together for a session regarding Social Media Measurement – An International Perspective, presented by Katie Paine, CEO, KD Paine & Partners; Maren Heltsche, Media Analysis Consultant, Ausschnitt Medienbeobachtung and Board Member, Arbeitsgemeinschaft Social Media; Martin Wettergren, CEO, MediaPilot AB. In regards to social media, Katie Paine noted that although in the early days of social media it was considered "PR trouble zone," we now recognize social media as an opportunity for PR.
Later today, Neil Wholey, Head of Research and Public Affairs, Westminster City Council, London, will hold a workshop on "Proving Value from Public Service Communications and a Roundtable Debate will focus on "Proof of Performance - Measurement in a Recession."The panel for the debate will be moderated by Mike Daniels, Director, Report International, Director of AMEC and a member of the IPR's Commission on Public Relations Measurement & Evaluation. The panel will include measurement experts such as Johna Burke, Vice President, BurrellesLuce; Dr. Harald Josse, CEO, BrandControl; Michael O’Connell, Managing Director, The Media Research Group; Philip Lynch, Media Evaluation Director, TNS Media Intelligence
