We have been following the dialogue between the City of Tacoma and the Tacoma Rainiers for a short while now. At this week's meeting, the city council approved $28 million in bonds in order to help pay for the renovations at the Rainiers' Cheney Stadium.
Enthusiasm was high even last week, when the city agreed to a new lease with the owners of the Rainiers.
Proponents of this project have argued that the revenue stream - which the city projects to include increased rent payments and (hopefully) more everyday ballgame goers - will help pay for itself over the long run.

About $9 million of the public debt will remain to be paid directly with the general fund.
There is some work to be done, particularly over concerns about pricing and parking.
Still, the main issue has been tackled and figured out. Now stakeholders just need to iron out all the details.
Also a couple other notes of importance at the meeting:
- Julie Anderson - having been sworn in as auditor earlier in the day - said goodbye to the council. Mayor Baarsma delegated the deputy mayor role to mayor-elect Marilyn Strickland, until she assumes the mayorship.
- There was a public hearing on the amended Six-Year Comprehensive Transportation Program for amended year 2009 and 2010-2015.
