The unemployed are frustrated with Senate Republicans blocking H.R. 4213

Associated Press / The Unemployed

Unfortunately, the passing of Senator Robert C. Byrd of West Virginia has really complicated matters for the unemployed. Last night, Senate Republicans blocked H.R. 4213 again with a vote of 58 / 38. Now, Senate Democrats need three Senate Republicans to obtain the constitutionally required 60 votes which equates to two-thirds of the Senate votes to pass an unemployment bill. The Senate is in recess and will not return until July 12, 2010. As per Stephen Ohlemacher of the Associated Press, Democrats are preparing to put H.R. 4213 on hold until Senator Byrd’s replacement has been seated sometime in August of 2010. With Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins voting in favor of H.R. 4213, the Democrats are opting toward a two-thirds majority in August.

Senate Republicans have proposed a bill that would last for two months with funding coming from the stimulus. In the following two months the process will only repeat itself. Ironically, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has said that H.R. 4213 is completely paid for in its present form; however, Senate Minority Leader Mitchell McConnell has maintained that the bill includes “job killing taxes.” Wall Street greed killed the jobs on Main Street. In light of the above, S. 5816 appears to still be in play.

Joe Scarborough has expressed that House Minority Leader John Boehner “is not a worker” and that he’s one to frequent bars between the hours of 5 and 6 o’clock in the evening. Great! Just what we need, a Republican Congressman who drinks alcohol and votes on issues that affect the lives of 15 million unemployed Americans. A fish rots from the head down. President Barack Obama was so irate with the Senate Republicans blocking the vote on H.R. 4213, he said:

We want an extension of unemployment benefits for workers who lost their job through no fault of their own. We want to help small business owners get the loans they need to keep their doors open and hire more workers. We want relief for struggling states so they don’t have to lay off thousands of teachers and firefighters and police officers.

In November, the 15 million unemployed Americans will not forget the political front put up by the Senate Republicans. From November onward the Democrats will have a majority to prevent the shameful posturing shown by the Senate Republicans. The unemployed have taken this personal and they are angry not only with Senate Republicans, but ALL Republicans. Attached to this article is a link of an unemployment American who has faithfully been reporting unemployment news on YouTube. Today, it's 15 million unemployed workers. Tomorrow, it's 15 million mad voters.

Thanks again Mr. Nelson for doing the hard work and burning the midnight oil.

Friday July, 2-3-4 I will spend in protest to the inaction of our elected officials. Ventura, Ca, County Gov. Center, Telephone and Victoria. While they are on vacation I will be at work replacing their lazy a***.

We have work to do people. We have a new Government to install and it starts by letting there be no mistake as to who is fired. Do not worry about the replacements now; there will be time for that. For now make it clear and join me with 15 million other's and let us go to work managing our America. We have the right to "LIVE AMERICAN" and replace these deadbeat jack******s.

The elected are either representing the people and working for them or they are not and working against them, so let us gather and work against them; through "LIVING AMERICAN" and letting them know they have been terminated and to get in the back of the lengthening line.

We will recover as long as we "LIVE AMERICAN"

I feel sorry for people that make these type comments. The dems for passed health care that help the poor and those needing job re-training. Also, they have given more tax cuts then Bush and is fighting to improve education in America so the we as a nation can compete globally.

The deficit that was created was under Bush (Two wars with greatest defense budget in history), along with a Market Crash. Name me another President since Roosevelt that has had these issues.

Another point, who has blocked extending unemployment benefits, voting to keep tax cuts for the rich. Last time I checked big companies are making BIG profits from overseas workers, that they say are more educated then USA workings. Is this the tend you what to continue? Please stop with the Republican talking points and wakeup and smell the coffee, plz. if we let the Republicans back in we will not "LIVE AMERICAN" but the middle class will be the slave class to the Corps.

Some one had posted to keep on claiming while waiting for this bill to pass however I cannot claim anything my first 6 months was over at the beginning of June. I have called in and tried to keep on claiming but I have been told I can't because there are no extensions in place now. And I have been told all I can do is get a job and/or wait for the bill to pass.... Of course I looking and trying and wishing for a job I'd rather work then collect no job offers yet. I just can't believe all I can do is sit and wait..... please is there anything I can do, can I really claim? with no weeks in my account?

When are people going to realize politicians don't care what you want or think unless they want your vote. They tell you what you want to hear. After they are elected it's business as usual. Back to political posturing and self serving agendas. They have allegiance only to the lobbyists. Big business needs a bail out we pay. We need help, we pay. We put this great country in their hands and they have betrayed us and the country they claim to love. They only love power and money. I'm not talking democrat or republican, they are all alike. There is not one politician on the horizon that gives the middle class any hope of restoring our country to what it once was. I have a father who fought in the Philippines in WWII. He told me he is glad to be near the end of his life because this is no longer the country he fought. for.

None and I mean none of these politicians care what happens to us. Tell me why congress working today on unemployment. Just wasting time before they leave on Vacation. The Senate is not going to be there to pass it. Its a bunch of bogus bullcrap. They are waiting for us all to drop off in two weeks which will lower the percentage of unemployed and then they will say that they do not need to put an extension through because the percentage will show that it is not needed. These Politicians or the President do not care about anything but collecting a paycheck.

Never vote in these republicans again. They had a chance to show they represent and care for the working American, the middle class the masses and they blew it. There is no reason to ever have this type of representative in any office of power. Of all things to take a stand on. This will cause great harm and is abusive and neglectful. Who could not take pass this bill when they know exactly who they are hurting? Who would let so many Americans out in the cold to avoid this. Who would go on vacation when they can do something to avoid and prevent so many from great pain and suffering. The stories are here and should be on the news. What more do you need people? This is in your face and they have spoken to the American people. FIGHT BACK. DON'T vote ANY IN WHO VOTED NO ON THIS, PULL THEM OUT OF OFFICE. WHY IN GODS NAME WOULD THEY DO THIS?

Does President Obama not have the power to sign an executive order that could extend UI benefits or create a new tier (for the 99ers) of UI benefits? Just wondering if he has that power, why does he not use it? It is clear that the President and the Democraps are afraid of the Repubilicants. They have the majority, yet the Repubilicants can still manage to have thier way. So who is really in control?

Maybe if you got off the race baiting wagon and looked at it objectively you would see that Obama's people have only spent 30% of the stimulus money that went to AIG, got some money back from GM. Where's the rest of the money? Why can't that money be allocated to extend unemployment? Instead the Dems will use this bailout money as a slush fund for re-election in November or 2012.Can't you see what your precious Obama is doing to this country? It's not the Republicans pal, but you're too focused on taking handouts from the fed to see the big picture. Stop blaming the Republicans and take a look at your God Obama!

My dear fellow, despite the anti-Republican usual vitriol in your article, I must point out that you are in dire need of a Remedial Math Class.

    My proof?

YOUR Democrats have a SUPER MAJORITY in BOTH HOUSES of Congress!

Do you understand the above sentence?

NOTHING the Republicans do can stop legislation UNLESS DEMOCRATS vote WITH the Republicans on any piece of legislation!

Earth to Edward: YOUR Democrats STOPPED the Unemployment Bill, NOT the Republicans.

So, how about you stop the sleight of word, get HONEST, and tell it like it REALLY is for a change?

Oh yeah, I'm NOT a Republican, I LEFT the Party back in 2008 because of their SPINELESSNESS in defending the Constitution.

RINO's are in charge of the Repub. Party, which is why Kagan is going to get seated on SCOTUS. They have ZERO spine and hence, America is being damaged by the Obamasiah and the Dems quite probably beyond repair.

Double or triple that...what about spouses, children ,parents, and relatives of the unemployed that can vote. I read some guy here say stop blamin Republicans when the Dems. have majority. Well the last time I remember you need 2/3 of the senate to pass a bill..so in this case all Dems. voted yes except for 2, all Reps. voted no except 3 where to lazy to vote and 2 voted yes, and with the only single independent voted yes..Democrates were still short. So get a clue guy! You want to blame all this spending on Obama and forget why he has to spend. Believe me I haven't forgot...I've had the last year and a half to think about it! Republicans say no to me.. I'll say no to them

It is a shakedown and disgusting! All for Dem politics but this time it is going to backfire....

    Hey again Edward,

First, thanks for responding to my post.

Secondly, 'commenting' can in fact include 'recommendations', as recommending something about an issue which has been heretofore raised, IS a 'comment'.

Thirdly, you know as well as I do that Simple Majority rules in the Senate are used by BOTH Parties to get things passed, and the Unemployment bill is no exception...the Dems just have to be willing to go that far Senate Rules wise to pass the bill...unless of course they (the Dems) have changed the rules to be NOT in their favor?

Lastly, what I 'know' about you is limited to what you WRITE. The same goes for what you know about me in context.

You are blaming Republicans for something which is not their fault, nor within their power. Obamatons routinely do the same thing with bills in the House of Reps: a bill doesn't pass? Blame the Repubs...though Fascist Nancy has what, a 40 seat MAJORITY?

I'm paying attention...and so are most other Independents.

Something has to give and it seems like the Dems are steadfast on keeping all of their provisions in there. Just help US (the American people) out. Increasing the deficit is a bad idea so I agree that it should be deficit neutral. I also agree that is should come from unspent stimulus money. That money has already been allocated anyway. It's not being spent so it's DEFINITELY not stimulating anything right now!!
