A lot of inconvenient truths are starting to appear in the battle over global warming. Even the term, “global warming” is being attenuated by retrenching environmentalists. The preferred term is now “climate change.” This shift in language was occasioned by the unexpected observation that, for the last eleven years, the Earth’s average temperatures have been cooling. So much for Michael Mann’s vaunted “hockey stick” chart, which predicted we would all be cooked in our greenhouse by the end of this century.
Last week, in what many are calling “the worst scientific scandal of our generation,” someone—it is not for certain if it was a hacker or a whistleblower—released a number of leaked emails from the University of East Anglia's Climatic Research Unit (CRU), indicating a long and devious conspiracy to manipulate and falsify temperature records, in support of the anthropogenic global warming (AGW) theory. This scandal has been dubbed “Climategate,” and the term seems to be sticking: Google shows that the word now appears across the internet more than thirteen million times.
The significance of this discovery cannot be overstated. The CRU scientists have been the driving force behind the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), and their “substantiation” of Mann’s “hockey stick” projections constitutes the underlying “scientific consensus” behind the IPCC’s global warming reports. This is the same “scientific consensus” relied upon by Al Gore in his movie, “An Inconvenient Truth,” and the rock upon which the disastrous Kyoto Accords were built.

The timing of this startling revelation could not be less propitious for the environmental socialists of the (now, cooling) world. Next month, world leaders will converge upon Copenhagen, to iron out a more suitable replacement for the Kyoto Accords; a dog’s breakfast of a treaty that Presidents Clinton and Bush refused to sign, and that our senate voted 99-0 not even to consider, much less approve.
Caught red-handed falsifying data, the crooks at CRU (they’ve made a lot of money off scaring the crap out of us) made an interesting u-turn last week. After having stonewalled for years, against numerous requests and freedom-of-information demands to release copies of the raw data they used to arrive at their AGW conclusions, they announced their willingness to make all of their data available for public and scientific scrutiny. Call it a little sunshine on global warming.

But wait. Not so fast. Are you ready for this? Over the weekend the CRU scientists at the University of East Anglia admitted destroying much of the raw temperature data on which their predictions of global warming are based. See, when they moved into their new offices (financed by a generous government grant), they didn’t have enough space to store all the papers and magnetic tapes they used in their research. It means that other academics are not able to check basic calculations said to show a long-term rise in temperature over the past 150 years. So much for the sunshine.
As the Church Lady used to say on SNL: “How convenient!” Seriously, is there any plausible reason for us to trust the conclusions and predictions of this bunch of crooks and charlatans? Only the most deranged, Kool-Aid drinking, Algore worshiping, enviro-fascist could pretend with a straight face that the anthropogenic global warming (AGW) theory is anything other than a giant pseudoscientific hoax.

Some day, when your grandchild asks you how so many folks could have been suckered in by Algore and the IPCC/CRU crowd, you can just say that it took you a while to discover that there was more truth to be found in The Louisville Examiner than on the pages of The New York Times. Since the beginning the earth has cooled, otherwise how do we have the earths crust. And the sun and the core seem a lot more influential than man's converting the earth's past energy. Would there be plant life if there were no CO2? Look to reasoned population control and not Cap and Trade moneypits, as long term mitigation to nature's fluctuations over which we probably have little control.

Hey, let's not forget the Courier Journal. They have systematically avoided this story as well. The media has always had a left bias, but now it's entirely another thing. They are totally one sided. These people don't realize that they will be just as dominated by big government micro-management of virtually everything as will people of other ideologies. I guess they think they have found some folks in Washington with like minded ideologies. The elites in
Washington don't care at all about ideology. They want it all. Money, control, complete dominance. Environmentalism is just the latest hussle toward that same end. If they could get total power by selling green cheese, they'd do that as well. I think what is needed regarding the CRU emails is just to stay focused and run articles about it every day until everybody sees it, even the Oprah fans. Not as many people per day see the smaller news outlets, but eventually they will all hear.This story is so powerful, it sells itself.
According to NASA we will probably break the temperature record in the next year or two. I wonder what your argument will be then? You also fail to mention that there are several other places do get that temperature data including NOAA and NASA. Also, your chart has been debunked a thousand times yet you guys keep using it?

We are at a crossroads. The scientific community IS predicting warming in the next few years and the 2005 record to fall and if it does NOT happen then their credibility will be gone and global warming debate will be dead. It would be a HUGE blow to the scientific community. However, if the poles continue to melt and glaciers all over the world continue to melt and temperatures start to go up again now that we are back in an El Nino.(even though the past few years were still some of the hottest years on record just not the hottest but still in the top ten.) If this happens the scientific community will be redeemed and those who faugh the scientific community will be responsible for slowing down progress on GW. They will be responsible for the deaths of millions in the next 100 years. Just like the scientists who said cigarettes would not hurt you. What is stunning is some of you really think the entire scientific community would bank it's reputation on something they don't believe in.
Steve you're not convinced by science, but by an ideology. Can't you see that the science is corrupt. In fact you can't even call it science at all. Much of this global warming stuff came out of the left political leanings of the academic establishment. I remember the dire predictions years ago when I was in university. It wasn't global warming then, but predictions like in the 1973 movie "Soylent Green". I look back on it now and those professors where total whack jobs. Science taught in that type of setting is not science at all, but a political ideology.

Anthropogenic Global Warming is dead? Sorry to inform you but this email thing is only being covered by right wing blogs and Fox news. On Google news it went from 250 articles down to just a couple in just a few days. The story is a non story because their was no smoking gun. It's just fake red meat for those who don't believe in science and think the world is only 6,000 years old. Not to mention those who think science is BS even though it's prolonged your life, given you medicine, taken us to the moon, created cell phones, TV, etc. etc. Maybe you should thank a scientist rather then doubt the entire community's credibility. These folks are staking their careers on being right. Making the wrong call in science usually kills careers.
Further to my last statement. Any time something is thought to be "caused by man" then a whole new set of dynamics kicks in. It opens up unlimited funding for research and once money is received to study the problem then the gravy train starts rolling. No one in their right mind would say there's nothing to it and it's not worth any further research. The research and science is skewed to keep the gravy train rolling. It's human nature plain and simple.

What i like to know is who gets to give carbon credits. And people need to see that if temp were to go up this fast then we can't do any thing to fix it, its to late and taxing the hell out of people is the last thing we should do. maybe give tax breaks for company's that would go Green. What I would like to see are graphs of the raw global temperatures. Never mind the fiddle fudge factors added in, that way I can make up my own mind.
All the Raw temperature data should be in the public domain, as well as all the computer code used for fiddling with the data. These scientists are employees of the people, and their work should be available to anyone that wants to review it.
How can we trust the other temperature measuring organizations, as it is highly likely the same mentality exists there as well.
Still boggles my mind how people can read all the emails and still try and defend the science they practiced.
Hey Logan, do you actually believe in this climate change(global warming) that is being told out there ?? I was in research for 42 years(retired now for 14 years) and from the "day one" of doing research was told "don't make waves", report what you are told to report. The results are formed before the research is done. They can and WILL take a set of figures and twist any which way they want in order to have the results come out to suit their desires. Al Gore is in this ONLY for the money, regardless of the lies he has to tell.

Phil Jones, director of the Climate Research Unit, formerly "world's leading research" center on global warming, has been forced to step down due to the Climategate scandal. Now many of the Climategate deniers, such as the Courier Journal, will have to respond with some kind of story or else they will appear to be totally disconnected from world events, even events related to their own political darlings. Senator Inhofe of Oklahoma has called for a conspiracy investigation. It doesn't matter if the main stream media tries to suppress this now. The story has legs. Everyone will eventually know. The MSM is just making themselves look even more lame than usual this time. Even the Oprah watchers will understand the concept of someone lying in order to steal their money.

McAdam claims the significance "cannot be overstated", but all he does is overstate and mis-state it.
There is NO "scientific fraud" in the East Anglia CRU research, nor in the leaked emails. What there is instead is a desperate attempt to both clean up the temperature data base AND keep a consistent message for the public.
But doing both things has always been a challenge for public policy based on science, all the more so with such a momentous issue as this.
Under such circumstances, it should surprise no one that emails written for a private planning context do NOT mean what the right-wing bloggers want us to believe: they do NOT prove the existence of any vast left-wing conspiracy, they do NOT prove any scientific fraud.
Rather, every attempt to read them that way relies on the same old fallacy SO popular with the right wing, "quoting out of context".

Unfortunately the discussions were sent to the ignoramuses and morons, who reacted exactly the way the scientists anticipated. Anyone who is NOT an ignoramus or moron will realize that heat is just one more form of pollution, and that all the various forms of pollution are going to damage the planetary ecosystem if not dealt with.
