Theatre is an expensive habit, and often we don’t even check what’s playing because we think of it as an extravagance. But for the price of two movie tickets (or even less), you can enter a dramatic world that will leave a much longer imprint on your mind. Live theatre enters your soul and stays for life, so don’t miss the experience this summer for some fantastic performances at the Pendragon Theatre in Saranac Lake.

This weekend saw the opening of Eurydice, a contemporary twist on the classic Orpheus myth seen through the eyes of the heroine. Directed by Karen Kirkham, it stars Leslie Dame, Donna Moschek, Tyler Nye, Brandon Patterson, Clare Paulson, Bob Pettee, and Laura Jean Schwartau – Swanson.

The first play of the season, The Jungle Book, opened to a sold-out crowd on Mother’s Day, and continues to play throughout the summer.

The Imaginary Invalid by Moliere opens July 14th, is a play that remains timeless, and as funny to us today as it was in 1673, with an adaptation by Constance Congdon that pushes contemporary farce to its limit.
Other productions featuring professional casts offer some of the best theatre in the Adirondacks:

Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf
Moby Dick Rehearsed
Complete Works of William Shakespeare, Abridged
The Three Penny Opera
Quilters
Cabaret
Little Shop of Horrors
The Fantasticks
The Royal Family

First-run plays are added to the calendar every few weeks, but all of the plays rotate throughout the summer so you can still catch them all. Check the calendar for the dates of your favorites.

Ticket prices are extremely reasonable at $20/adults, $17 senior, and $10/age 17 and under, but if you enjoy live theatre, then consider one of the several subscription packages to bring down the price even further. Check the Pendragon Theatre website for more details.
