A video has circulated the web with someone who is apparently holding a slim Playstation 3 unit in the Philippines. It may be safest to assume this is a hoax, and then look for clues, if any, that may suggest any sort of reality. By looking at the comments below about the features of this slim unit, some aspects raise questions. For instance, unless the shopper in the video opened up the drive bay, there is no way he would know it has 120 GB drive inside. Even if it could somehow boot, the hard drive could be faked to read 120 GB of storage space. Sony just gets lucky everytime with these problems. The shop owner's advice would also simply lack any credibility. Secondly, the logo change is not to be ignored. Sometimes fakes use alternative titles to avoid copyright issues, which could end up being big red flag.
From the IGN boards, a member posted this allegedly from the source.
What I know:
- It has a 120GB HDD.
- Two USB Ports
- The 'touch' button for eject and on seems to be gone, and there are now these random buttons.
- The ps icon is now white instead of colored.
- No more card reader
- PLAYSTATION 3 is gone, rather its PS3. It says this on the bottom as well for some reason.
- The guy was selling it with a Dualshock 3. Whether it is compatible is another matter.
- The guy was selling it for 20,000 pesos, which is roughly £250, which is roughly $410
Original video
Snooper71 from the PS3 forums posted this photo of the said unit. It was originally in 1600 x 1200 resolution (2 megapixels, likely a camera phone). The source is not stated, but looks like the one in the video so it may be the same person. Some slight color adjustments were done to bring out some black and contrast to see if any details are present.

This video was posted in response to the original video above, noting that the placement of the USB ports, serial number, power plug and a few other functions are relatively accurate. Although interesting, it leaves a lot to be desired. As mentioned previously, the video is very low quality and still difficult to actually see the craftsmanship and build quality. Knowing places in China, Taiwan, and South Korea where fake hardware commonly hides in electronic malls, some reproductions can be done very well- at least well enough to make a small argument for a short while. If anyone notices anything further, feel free to comment.

Scammed... these are those fake PS3 "games machines" being sold in hundreds of chinese electronics stores everywhere. They are usually a SNES machine with a small knock up of a console wrapped around it - look around, they have PS2 ones and PS3 and Wii.. etc.. hehe scammed...
