InFAMOUS movie picked up by screenwriter

Through news from The Hollywood Reporter, Sucker Punch Studios now has the chance to bring its highly successful game inFAMOUS from the Playstation 3 to the big screen, not unlike that of Naughty Dog Studios and its own prized title, Uncharted. Screenwriter Sheldon Turner has worked with the studio and Sony Pictures to bring what she believes is "...the future of gaming. The game, while big and fun, is at its core a love ballad to the underachiever, which is what our hero, Cole McGrath, is."

In terms of big budget games in the process of going into the movie realm, Microsoft first touted its Halo and Gears of War Franchise. Then Sony decided to bring Uncharted and now inFAMOUS. With these mega-budgets in mind, one would hope that films based on games might actually begin to have more definition. Now that games frequently use their own script writers (even if basic in comparison), much of the lore, background, and memories of the games are already implanted in people's heads. A lot of resources can be used instead for expanding the ideas.

The relationship between movies and games has been a shaky one at best. The transition from game to movie in some ways is easier (than reverse) due to the reasoning that games are built openly, whereas movies are tied down to exactly how the story unfolds. InFAMOUS is even more unique, in that it is an open world game to start out with and has a comic book series to maintain a coherent story line. Let your imagination run wild.
