The potato sack challenge is booty galore
This week’s challenge paired up the remaining designers in teams to create a day and evening look from one of four New York City neighborhoods—Chinatown, Upper East Side, Harlem and East Village. This was fabulous idea and it somewhat apologized and made up for the bland atrocity of the Los Angeles themed challenges from the previous season.
Anthony paired with Maya, Emilio took Seth Aaron, Amy opted for Jonathan and poor Jay got stuck with Mila, aka Natasha of Rocky and Bullwinkle fame.
Oh, the drama, drama, drama. Panic attacks were the meal due jour for poor Jay whose every word hinged on how much he hated Mila.
“Oh my God. I can’t breathe. My heart is pounding,” Jay tells the camera. “I’m stuck with Mila.”
“I have to get over the fact that I don’t like her.”
“We just want to put on a good show and forget about the fact that she doesn’t like me, and I don’t like her.”
“I’m a little worried that Mila’s going to throw me under the bus.”
Meanwhile, Emilio snickered all the way to the challenge win because his world was made better by seeing Jay battle Mila’s icy eyebrows.
But apparently, the drama was in everyone’s mind because there was little to no drama in an episode that would surely have guaranteed exchange of catty snipes. Jay and Mila did a marvelous job of staying out of each other’s way and they were civil, and dare we say, professional to each other. Even during judging when they did ultimately end up in the bottom, neither Jay nor Mila could muster up the courage to whip out the daggers they were hiding in their clothes. Even Heidi seemed disappointed that no blood was shed.
It’s that time of season when Project Runway judges start weeding out the good from the fabulous. The harmonious partnership between Amy and Jonathan was cut short when she got auffed. In the end, it was Amy who got thrown under the bus by four judges who seemed unduly harsh with a shirtdress, which was colorful, intricate and detailed. Amy should have stayed longer in the competition but it seems judging is as inconsistent as is Michael Kors’ appearance on Project Runway.
Jonathan was right to cry his eyes out when it was announced that Amy would be leaving. Many viewers, myself included, will miss Amy’s design aesthetic and her cool, laid-back personality. If Amy was a nasty and pompous diva, surely she could have made it further.
Because on Project Runway, it’s no longer about talent, but rather the bitchiness factor that creates high ratings.
