Styleweek Providence announced today that it has added two nationally known designers, April Johnston and Peach Carr, to its already impressive August 2011 line-up. Johnston and Carr both received national recognition after appearing together in season eight of the hit reality television fashion competition ‘Project Runway’.
April Johnston, who was a recent graduate of Savannah College of Art and Design at the time she appeared on ‘Project Runway’ drew acclaim from fans and judges alike for her darkly inspired but still glamorous fashion. She finished in 5th place in the competition, with many believing that she should have made it to the top three.
Peach Carr is very much the antithesis of Johnston. This 50 year old Illinois native has made a name for herself by creating brightly colored tennis inspired dresses and sportswear. Most recently Peach Carr added a children’s collection to her fashion line.
Both designers have remained active in the fashion world since leaving ‘Project Runway’. They have continued to show their collections in runway shows across the country. Peach Carr has an online shop featuring her work while Johnston sells select items through her Etsy shop. This will be both designers first times showing at Styleweek Providence.

Styleweek Providence began as a fashion event, modeled on the already existing fashion weeks in New York City, Paris, and Milan, to draw attention to the increasing numbers of fashion designers working and living in the greater Providence area. Long known as a creative capital Providence is uniquely located between New York City and Boston and is home to the acclaimed art institution the Rhode Island School of Design. Styleweek Providence not only includes runway shows but also community wide events that put the spotlight on the restaurants, nightlife, and thriving art scene that Providence has to offer. Styleweek Providence partners with different charities at each event to raise awareness, and funds, for worthy causes. Most recently they partnered with the American Heart Foundation. In January thirteen local designers created red themed fashions each specifically designed for a survivor of heart disease.
Since it began in 2009 Styleweek Providence has grown to a bi-annual event that gives emerging and established fashion designers exposure to millions of fashionistas across New England- and across the globe. Styleweek Providence begins August 28th. Others designers who will be featured at the August Styleweek Providence include Aviva Falk, Jessica Abernathy, Jeff Lahens, and Kara Wickman
