US Catholic Bishops are pushing a toxic agenda that threatens the body politic. Catholic rejection of secular policy threatens health care reform for the nation and social services in Washington DC.
In the health care debate the US Bishops were instrumental in pushing through the Stupak amendment in the House. Their anti-abortion agenda is no secret.
About the anti-choice extremist attempts to limit access to abortion, Rep. Bart Stupak, speaking about the passage of the amendment that bears his name told the Associated Press, “The Catholic Church used their power — their clout, if you will — to influence this issue."
No religious institution should have such power. Abortion is a constitutionally protected medical procedure in this country. The amendment forced onto the house health care bill is obnoxious. It is an attempt to enforce a religious teaching, and curtail a woman's constitutional guarantee of reproductive freedom..
In Washington DC, the US Bishops threaten to terminate social services to thousands if the city recognizes gay marriage. The blatant homophobia and insistence on some sort of moral supremacy by the Catholic hierarchy is a corrosive and toxic force in American politics.
US Catholic Bishops on gay marriage:
''The legal recognition of same-sex unions poses a multifaceted threat to the very fabric of society, striking at the source from which society and culture come and which they are meant to serve."
A threat to the very fabric of society?
Recognition and acceptance of gay marriage is widespread. The hierarchy of the Catholic Church has sought to change these facts. They have failed. They now seek to influence the political system through threats of black mail and back room arm twisting.
The blatant homophobia and insistence on some sort of moral supremacy by the Catholic hierarchy is a corrosive and toxic force in American politics. The US Bishops are in no position to offer instruction on public policy. Their house is filled with decadence and corruption.
America’s first Catholic president, John F. Kennedy, had these words of wisdom:
“I believe in an America where the separation of church and state is absolute, where no Catholic prelate would tell the President (should he be Catholic) how to act…. I believe in an America that is officially neither Catholic, Protestant nor Jewish, where no public official either requests or accepts instructions on public policy from the Pope, the National Council of Churches or any other ecclesiastical source -- where no religious body seeks to impose its will directly or indirectly upon the general populace or the public acts of its officials….”

Really, so abortion is a necessary medical procedure so, people can also use it public healthcare for plastic surgery or so that hypochondriacs can get a different another scan every week?
PS I realize that there are extenuating circumstances such as rape of a the possibly death of the mother at child birth these cases are so few that they could get special approval by a doctor to be covered under the insurance
In stark contrast to the bill itself, the Stupak amendment passed with a huge bipartisan majority, for the simple reason that taxpayers don't want to subsidize the grisly abortion industry.
I love the line that acceptance of same-sex so-called marriage is "widespread". That's why it is decisively rejected whenever the people have a say.
There goes the Stoner with his hateful bigotry towards Christianity again....
Religious people and groups are not US Citizens?
I think people from Portland should have no say either.
Abortion IS an ELECTIVE procedure 99% of the time.
Look all you pro abortionists. Get one if you choose but do not ask me to help pay for it and I will not demand YOU help pay for my new FN Five Seven, deal?
How can I make a formal complaint to the IRS?
FlexSF says: How can I make a formal complaint to the IRS?
Good question. I would like to file a complaint against all the churches that have Democrap candidates get up and lecture the crowd just before election time.
If you were around when John Kennedy was running for President, you'd understand the context and the reason for what he said. The fact that he was Catholic scared lots of voters so he had to try to reassure them.
I wonder if Michael Stone would enjoy spending his days performing abortions and watching the babies being suck down the sink.
Well let's see Mikey is attacking the Christians now, that leaves his other favorite targets FOX NEWS CHANNEL, Glenn Beck, Sarah Palin, and Right Wing Homophobes some breathing room.
Sorry I left out the NRA and Pro-Gun crowd....
If the catholics don't like gay marriage than they don't need to accept public funds, plain and simple.
As for abortion restrictions in the House health care bill, they should lose their tax exempt status, they are acting like a political party, not a religion.
Are Catholics getting public funds??
Olivia, whould you like learn to perform abortions? What do you suppose they do with all the "stuff" left over after the abortion?
Olivia is a part of the "tolerant left"
For Catholic Bishops to offer any other alternative than to suggest and influence the abandonment of public funding for infanticide, would equate to heresy on their part. You do understand Catholic doctrine on the matter, no?
"Recognition and acceptance of [same-sex so-called] marriage is widespread"?
Widespread? It has been soundly rejected 30 out of 30 times the people were consulted.
Maybe one day you'll figure out that not all who claim to be "Christian" really are.In fact, most people and most of the organizations that claim to be, not only are NOT,but are so far off the mark as to be 180 degrees out of sync with the teachings of ancient and true Christianity, what Jesus stood for and taught. Most of them are hypocritical, pagan, political, money gathering, lying frauds. The Catholic Church is the poster boy for this worldwide fraud, followed closely by her daughters, the so called "protestant" churches, all run by a corrupt group of saleried prostitutes, the paid for hire clergy and the misled group of people who follow them.As a group, they have the idea that,if they THINK that they are "Christian",and present themselves as such, then, that in itself makes it so.Jesus' own words show their idea to be false, just as your idea that, because you present yourself as a journalist, then you really are one. Objective, thinking people can see through a fraud instead of buying into it.
