Updating a previous story: Newsmax has pulled a column suggesting a military coup would solve the "Obama problem". The column, written by John Perry, and published by the right wing media organ Newsmax, was an inflammatory bit of rhetoric that may have crossed the boundary of free speech and entered the territory of treason.
Newsmax was vague about why they pulled the column so quickly, but clearly they received a great deal of pressure and negative publicity is a very brief period of time. The article was up for less than 24 hours.
A spokeswoman for Newsmax sent a statement to TPM admitting that the magazine removed the column after several reader complaints. She also identified Perry as an "unpaid blogger."
Newsmax strongly believes in the principles of Constitutional government and would never advocate or insinuate any suggestion of an activity that would undermine our democracy or democratic institutions.
The column was a vile bit of fluff, reflecting the ugly right wing crazies who would seriously entertain notions of a military coup. The column is a symptom of a diseased element of society, replete with ignorance, hatred and bigotry.

If this was really true: "Newsmax strongly believes in the principles of Constitutional government and would never advocate or insinuate any suggestion of an activity that would undermine our democracy or democratic institutions.", then they (and anyone else) would know that any talk of getting rid of a wrongful government is not only authorized by the Constitution and enabled by the Bill of Rights, but it is our DUTY. Rememer: soap box, ballot box and powder box in that order.
