Tea Party Express fizzles

The Tea Party Express went out with a fizzle, as a smaller than anticipated crowd gathered In Washington DC. The motley crew of marchers attending the event reflected a small misinformed minority feeling fear and anger over the more liberal direction the country began taking since the 2008 election.

The gathering was an opportunity for right wing whiners to feel a sense of community in their distress. The Tea Party was a vehicle for protesters to express their mounting displeasure with their government. Their issues are many, ranging from the bank and auto bailouts to President Obama’s push to overhaul the nation's health system to concerns about perceived erosion of First and Second Amendment rights.

The event was Astroturf in large part, a Glenn Beck publicity stunt shamelessly plugged by Fox News. In addition, right wing extremists and corporate-backed groups, (in particular a large showing by the health insurance industry), were also involved in sponsoring the de facto anti-Obama march.

In hindsight, the nation is lucky the event was a harmless goof for the tin foil hat crowd. Beck and Fox News have been constantly pandering to a dangerous right wing fringe.

Beck's rhetoric is schizophrenic, at one moment crying and asking if we can all get along, and at the next moment warning of black helicopters, government plans to steal children and a coming civil war. Beck likes to tell his audience: "We surround them" - which is in itself an incitement to violence, and but one example of Beck's reckless disregard for civility, decency and mutual respect.

The Tea Party attracted all sorts of crazies. Libertarians, White Supremacists, Birchers, Patriot Movement devotees and radical Anti-Abortion Movement supporters were all there. The National Association of Rural Land Owners (NARLO) a group that preaches a coming civil war, and seems to advocate violent insurrection, was a major sponsor of the event.

The Tea Party Express, was in the end, an attempt to make crazy main stream. Let us hope they fail.

Mikey says that the tea-party movement attracted "white supremacists" predictably good ole Stoney brings out the race card and another YAWWWWWN rant against Glenn Beck. Mikey do you dream about Glenn Beck because I have a friend, who has a friend, who knows a friend, who knows Glenn personally, and maybe I could help you meet Mr. Beck. Oh well back to Mikey's race card obsession, the reason you probably didn't see any black supremacists there Mikey was because they were either in Obama's old church or at his good friend's Louie's crib. Hey maybe they were at Eric Holder's house discussing how to intimidate voters in 2010.

    Harry,

I am bored with Beck as well, but the truth is there is a high interest in the story, and so I feel obligated to my many readers to continue the coverage. I hope this will be the last time I need to write about Beck for awhile.

    Thanks for reading,

    Peace

The "expectations game" ranged from 30,000 (predicted by event promoters) to 2 million (predicted by Democrats). I'd guess the actual attendance was 450,000 of so. That's 15 times what the promoters thought, and a quarter of what the Democrats feared. Twitter's "trending topics" included "#912dc" for most of the day, and the people who were tweeting from DC were PUMPED UP.

What fizzle? DC police put the numbers at 1.2million. A local ABC affiliate put the number at 2million. The photo at michellemalkin's blog clearly shows a HUGE crowd. Just look at the capitol in the backgroud and you can clearly see this demonstration took up miles. But, I know, lets not let facts get in the way of SPIN!

Capital Police estimate protestors at 1.2 million.
Organizers put their own estimates at over 400,000.
One report from ABC 1.5 million.

You're a liar- you think you can change history by rewriting it- there were hundreds of thousands of protestors there. Firemen drove from NYC- the bravest who survived 9/11/01 -- but people like you will try to rewrite that too. The Good Citizens of the USA- the silent majority are sick of it all-- Obamas policies are not working-- go watch jib jab! Obama is trying to throw the baby out with the bathwater-- a complete overhaul for something that was working well???? The paying citizens are not going to take this sitting down.

    @GOP08_DOA,

Perhaps it will help your argument a little more if you learned how to spell first before calling people "retarded " or "mental midgets." I mean really until you learn how to put legitimate sentences together with proper spelling, it's probably better to stick to the issues instead of sophomoric name-calling jackass.

I cannot believe that anyone, either a blogger or a reporter, could print so many inaccuracies in a single article.

I attended the March in DC and the crowd was nothing like your article suggests. The people came from all over the US, including Alaska. They were polite, friendly, non-threatening normal Americans and their numbers have been reported from 1.2 mil to 2 mil. You should be fired for trying to pass fiction off as fact! You are truly a jackass.
