R-71, the so-called "everything but marriage" legislation, will become law in Washington State. This is good news for those who value fairness, justice and family. The results deal a blow to religious zealots and other bigots who oppose equality for the gay and lesbian community.
The same crowd determined to punish their gay brothers and sisters in Maine lost their bid to enforce their prejudice in Washington. In light of the devastating defeat in Maine, victory in Washington is a small consolation for those who cherish American values of freedom and justice, and those repulsed by religious tyranny.
Sometimes a minority must be protected from the tyranny of the majority. The hatred, bigotry and discrimination of our religious institutions has gone on too long.
Good and decent people must stand up to the hate mongers. Homophobia has no place in a civilized society. A society that denies a minority basic rights because of religious ignorance and superstition is intolerable. Say no to hate.
The fight will continue. Justice will prevail.

Do you think this article displays love and acceptance? You say those who opposed r71 are hate mongers, but you are being just as hateful towards those you haven't met. I am very ashamed of people who call themselves "Christians" and turn around and blatantly despise homosexuals, because that's not how Christ was at all. But by this article I would think there are many people who voted for r71, or who are themselves gay, who are equally embarrassed to have you represent them and their beliefs. If you want equality and freedom from ignorance and superstition you need to accept those who believe differently than you, just as you demand of those who opposed r71. You don't have to accept their views, but you certainly need to open your mind to why they might hold those positions. And I pray that more religious tyrants will open their minds to hear why you hold your position.
I completely agree and support the views in the above comment. Written with such respect towards others. Now thats how a true Christian should address people with love and equality. Everyone is a sinner, no one is better than the other. We're supposed to love thy enemy and I think the writer shows that above. My opinion as a Christian is that gays already took a symbol that was a gift from god and corrupted it. They could have made up any sign or symbol, yet they chose to degrade this beautiful gift givin to us as a promise not to destroy the world by flood agian. This way of life and the other evil in the world, being the reason it was destroyed in the first place. Now they want the privilege of marriage. A holy matrimony between a man and a woman is the only common religious experiences the whole world shares. Allowing gay marriage completely contradicts what marriage is about. It would be a joke and might as well build 25 cent booths and put em everywhere, don't need a pastor anymore.
Personally, I am thrilled this passed, although I wish that gay marriage was legal. I am a "Mormon", and a fan of Glenn Beck. I agree there is no place for hatred towards another group. You really should practice what you preach. You are a perfect example of a typical Progressive. I hope your heart softens and accepts all people one day.
Margie, because someone believes marriage should be between one man and one woman DOES NOT MEAN they "hate" gays! Get this through your thick skulls!
One does not mean the other. Do you want to know what is BIGOTED and HATEFUL? When you people cast wide untrue aspersions on people JUST BECAUSE THEY disagree with you.
Homosexuality is a genetic disease. Just like Downs Syndrome. The genes have had a problem.
Whether you believe in creationism or evolution, neither theory would allow by natural design, the species to lose the needed benefit of procreation. Nature is not that stupid!
Christ always loves the sinner, just hates the sin. If you are not a believer in the truth of the bible, then it makes sense that you would not see the value in marriage between a man and woman. Just the same for those of us who have never been caught up in the homosexual lifestyle, cannot understand what those people are going through. Christians need to focus on prayer, for the God we serve is so much bigger than all of this.

I still don't buy into the whole thing about people being born gay. I think certain pyschological factors might have driven people to be gay or they're gay by choice. Either way it's abnormal and to encourage these people to continue in the gay lifestyle by accepting homosexuality as normal is hateful. I just wish I could PT people like Mikey until they puked.

It is absolutely wrong for Mikey to attach all those negative labels on to anyone who does not buy into all the social and legal changes he and his dope smoking butt buddies demand.
per stolen "..It would be a joke and might as well build 25 cent booths and put em everywhere, don't need a pastor anymore..." ahhhh, i think that's already been done by heter-o-sexuals in Las Vegas.
I truly believe Maine didn't want to see the same improvements (downward trend) in their divorce rate as Mass. has seen over the years since their marriage equality has been in effect. Proof that gay marriage improves straight marriage but the anti-gays don't want to listen to that part of what God is saying.
I have yet to see a good reason as to why gays shouldn't marry that doesn't have anything to do with religion or so-called moral beliefs. If gays marrying is defiling the "sanctity of marriage", then what about atheists who marry? They don't even believe in God and yet they can marry. Or what about gays who believe in God, and accept Jesus Christ into their lives? Why can't they marry? Anyone who has these beliefs is sorely misinformed, and don't realize how hateful these opinions are. Damning an entire group of people just because they don't live the lifestyle you deem appropriate is not very Christ-like. Isn't that what you Christians claim to be?

What next the left wanting us to support NAMBLA, child rapists, underage prostitution, oops sorry they've already tried that before, bunch of freaks.

I enjoyed this article because it was completely free of any bias in its reporting. Kudos to the author. </sarcasm>
Why is it a surprise that Christians are opposed to gay-marriage when the Bible teaches that homosexuality is an abhorrent sin and marriage is a Biblical institution? Why be so hate filled in your rhetoric against Christianity when they, the Christians, are simply living according to the teachings that they consider to be given from the Creator? Why do you feel that you have a right to complain and claim that tyrannical religious oppressors are attempting to subjugate the US with their "repulsive" religious morality while at the same time suggesting that Christians have no such right? What a total breakdown in logic.
Christians do have a God given precedent in their Holy Book and a Constitutional right to reject and speak out against R71. That you stoop to name calling demonstrates both the weakness of your argument and YOUR glaring religious bigotry.
Another rant from the degenerate, still using your usual tactics, though, name calling anyone ("phobes" "bigots")who would dare suggest that you and your agenda might be wrong, even warped, as it definitely is. Then,as usual, you demand "fairness, justice and equality" as though demanding such is prima facie evidence that you should have it along with your demand for legal instituions that you have NO right to (marriage). Criminals of all kinds, likewise, would like to have society accept their behavior and legalise it. They would like everyone to be just like them: criminals, yet their desiring that does not make it just for them to have it.
In fact, you and your immoral gay porn agenda are the real haters, haters, first of all of ANYONE who would oppose you, anyone who would call you what you are: sick and degenerate, haters of the opposite sex, haters of true love, haters of what is decent and normal, haters of real marriage and monogamy, haters of life and happiness, haters of procreation and real families, and haters of everything good and wholesome. Ultimately you will fail. But in the mean time keep on writing your hate drivel. Keep on proving what I just wrote is true.
Most of the time the majority must be protected from the tyranny of an evil minority. The evil sexually deviant criminals in our society have been tolerated too long. Good and decent people must stand up to the hate mongers. Homosexuallity has no place in a civilized society. A society that allows a minority to destroy it because of permissiveness is intolerable. Say no to hate. Say no to Michael Stone and the warped twisted viewpoint he advocates.
