The politics of Christian hate is taking an ugly turn with the spread of T-shirts and bumper stickers proclaiming: "Pray for Obama: Psalm 109:8". Praying for Obama sounds relatively harmless; however, this is no harmless slogan. The psalm reads, "Let his days be few; and let another take his office."
Alright, clearly those supporting the slogan are not Obama fans. They are not praying that Obama does a good job, they are praying Obama's days are few. They are praying for Obama's death. It gets even worse. The line that follows reads: "Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow". This goes beyond political dissatisfaction; this is a prayer for the death of our President.
Christians praying for the death of our President? Is this what Christianity is about? How low are those on the right willing to stoop? And will those Christians who claim to know better step up and denounce such vile and disgusting sentiment?
One thing is certain, the election of President Obama has unleashed a force of rage and anger and hatred that is unprecedented. The fact that so-called Christians would pray for the death of our President, would pray that his wife be made a widow, and his children left without a father, crosses a line that should never be crossed.
Such blind hatred, fed by religious ignorance and superstition, threatens our existence as a free people. It is a sad commentary on the state of the union.

I do know of Christians who think it is biblical to pray for a leader's death. However, they are in the vast minority, and any theologian worth his salt and light rejects such thinking. This Psalm 109:8-9 deal is using humor to make a political statement. It is not asserting a biblical charge to hurt anyone, or call for their demise. In fact, the Psalm was written by King David as a leader assaulted on every side, and it is his appeal to God for help and defense. If Mr. Obama has a sense of humor he will turn it around and use it to appeal to God for defense against his critics, fighting a little fire with brimstone if you will. (I think you need to lighten up a little Michael. Nothing more than folks kidding around, yet people who feel Mr. Obama is the real threat to the republic, and so, they desire only one term, nothing more...)

It's even policy to ban the free speech, free assembly, and religious freedom of Christians; so don't give me that crap. It does say that we should pray for our President, even when our President is hostile towards Christians.
You forget that the heart of the leader is in the hand of God. He does with it what He wills. Of course, you never read this; you just like to portray Christians as only full of hate speech. Whatever. You should try reading the entire Bible; in the end you find out that God wins. To the people saying that such a prayer is non-Christian, please explain the many instances in Scripture where such prayers were said. Obviously, there comes a time when such prayers become appropriate.

The 109th Psalm concerns the time when King Saul was seeking to kill David, whom Samuel had prophesied would take Saul's place. In those days, taking a king's place meant that the king would die.
The liberal elite and many Christian leaders are decrying this "unloving" use of the imprecatory Psalms to pray for our president.

Christianity has been bastardized in america since the 80's. Jesus wouldn't recognize what its become. Now, it's a tool to be used politically so that you can say your party is more moral than someone elses. Whern the Bible speaks of a man's days as "being few", it is NOT a reference to a change in employment, it is a reference to the length of his life. To pray for a man's days to be few is to pray for his life to be short. Anyone who has really spent time studying the Bible knows that - and lying about it to cover up your intent is truly sinful. It also means you know what you are doing and are denying it.

Those 11 words have NO significance to the context for which they are displayed in bible. WOW, so some other moron went through his WHOLE bible and found that 1 verse to describe how he/she feels about the president. Then we have morons saying that there is nothing about the verse because it has nothing to do with verse 9. Why not just make up something that is not a verse? My bet is because people who turn to religion to begin with are on the IQ totem pole and lack the degree of imagination needed to pen an original thought. This also explains how they can't possibly see the connection between Psalms 109:8 and the rest of the chapter. Be weary, these are the same tactics that killed the Roman Empire and plunged the western world into the Dark Ages for a millennium.
