Obama Tag? Idaho GOP candidate jokes about assassinating president

A GOP candidate for Idaho governor is making jokes about assassinating President Obama. Rex Rammell, a candidate in the 2010 Idaho governor's race, recently made a joke about hunting and killing President Obama.

Rammell's 'joke' was made to a local Republican group about the state's wolf hunt, for which hunters must pay for "wolf tags." An audience member shouted out a question about "Obama tags."

"Obama tags? We'd buy some of those," Rammell responded.

Rammell said he won't apologize for the comments, but insists he was just joking. Rammel tweeted about the episode on Twitter: "Obama hunting tags was just a joke! Everyone knows Idaho has no jurisdiction to issue tags in Washington D.C."

This guy is no Jay Leno. His joke is despicable. To their credit, the Idaho Republican party issued a statement condemning Rammell's joke.

Rammell's joke is irresponsible and insensitive. For Rammell to stand by his joke after the benefit of hindsight, is morally repugnant.

The growing right wing insanity is truly frightening. Congressional representatives praising self identified "right wing terrorists", and calling for a "great white hope"; a candidate for governor joking about assassinating the president of the United States, are all deeply disturbing.

One must ask: Where are the decent, patriotic Republicans? Are there any left? Is a Republican now defined as a right wing terrorist who desires the assassination of President Obama? Has the Republican party been reduced to a collection of racists waiting for a "great white hope"?

That is just a LIE and you know it! The terrorist label came from the likes of your type toward those of us simply exercising our civil rights!

Mikey, I must say your repetitive exaggerated hyperbole is boring and exdeedingly redundant in its rather amateurish style of journalism. Please seek to be more professional in your work in the future.

If the same comment was made about George W. Bush, half the comics in this country would be milking it to thunderous laughter.

"body's not even cold" - what point did the "author" make? That what's acceptable in referencing a republican president is unacceptable in referencing a democrat?

Rex Rammell is a sick-thinking individual, very much like Glenn, Sarah Palin, and Rush Limbaugh. And the rest of the republican goats follow suit in defending these jerks. It is no wonder the party is dying a slow and painful death! Am glad SOME republican have the good sense to condemn these so-called-people. The "SOME republicans" are few and far between and the rest of their party condemn them because they don't go along with these vile creatures!

Republican Conservatives don't bother to be conservative at all, they do and say pretty much what they want regardless of their self-proclaimed love for God and country. Anyone who does not agree with them are "un-American" are not "Godly", are not "patriotic" and are "anti-Amiercan. Both McCain and Sarah Palin professed these things during their campaigning. They inspired and condoned hate, racism, and ugliness and their goats went absolutely wild with applause. How very shameful!

Yes Ray. This ignoramus, like all Republican idiots, is the victim here. Thanks for defending his right to be an idiot. Those darned elitist Democrats have no sense of humor at all.

The GOP Governor Candidate did not make the joke. Someone from the audience made the joke. He just responded to it. Who was the person from the audience. Until we know it could have been a liberal. Why has DNC/Obama declared war on the American people? We pledge allegiance to God, Family, Country and our Constitution not to politicians and especially not to crooked politicans!! God Bless America and protect her from all evil.

And Rammell is running for a post. He better start running now.

Maybe Mike you could be more objetive in your writing if instead of Jay Leno you watched something really funny, like Cat Weightlifting on youtube. I think it would let some of that fire out of your belly.

I personally congratulate Rammel for standing by his opinion and not backing down. I think its a very funny statement and shouldn't be shunned by the people that are " one sided" like most of your "patriotic" republicans. The government is corrupt as it is, taking the rights from honest living americans, and giving them to the immigrants that dont need to be here anyways. If i were in his footsteps i would have said the same thing.

    Sincerely,
An anonymous civilian starting the revolution.
