GOP astroturfing threatens health care reform

In a desperate measure to prevent meaningful health care reform the GOP is engaged in a campaign of dirty tricks and misinformation. One tactic is called "astroturfing". It is an attempt to make something artificial look natural, to create the impression of spontaneous, "grassroots" behavior. This astroturfing, the effort to discredit health care reform, is being paid for in large part by the health insurance industry.

Republicans and blue dog Democrats are in the pockets of the health insurance lobby. Health insurance companies are making money hand over fist. They have no interest in changing the status quo. They are profiteers, exploiting Americans. By subsidizing the current campaign of dirty tricks and misinformation the health insurance industry seeks to protect their bottom line.

The choice is stark, once the misinformation is cleared away. We can continue with the status quo, continue to subsidize the health insurance industry while million upon millions of Americans go without health care, or we can look to reform.

The fear mongering has been intense. Stories of forced euthanasia, health care rationing, and socialized medicine are all rampant. A small vocal minority is being recruited by health insurance lobbyists to go out and sabotage town hall meetings meant to discuss this most important issue. The insurance industry is recruiting right wing thugs to infiltrate town hall meetings in order to shut them down with chants and bullying tactics.

Many of these thugs are the same people recruited for the tea party effort, a failed right wing strategy deployed by various fringe elements and funded by corporate interests. Happy to take advantage of the right wing fringe for their own interests, corporate powers are now seeking out ways to exploit and harness the energy of these misguided and deluded Americans. Health care reform is their newest target.

If you know one of these poor, deluded, misinformed individuals, try to talk sense into them. Hold their hand. Explain to them the sky is not falling. Help them see that health care reform is in every one's interest. Explain to them that they are being played by corporate interests. Be kind: It is the duty of the wise to care for the foolish.

More BULLSHIT from the Head of the BULLSHIT Committee.

I have helped spread the word of town hall meetings around me and I have not heard from ONE health care company. Neither has anyone who has helped.

MOST who I talk to have not gone to a town hall meeting or even protested anything. They are all too bust working for a living and taking care of their families.
Your use of names calling is worse than bigotry. It is vile hate speech if there is such a thing.

Did you write about ACORN breaking into homes they did not own around the country a few months ago? Did you write the same type of crap about the idiot leftists who throw pies in the face of speakers at the college campuses? When congressmen on the right are INVITED to speak and the leftists FORCE THEM OFF STAGE?

Why is it WRONG fro the right but a OK for the left?

    You are such a hypocrite.

Hey Mikey, what about those Black Panthers standing outside the voting polls in Philadelphia, during last year's presidential election. I mean those guys were carrying billy clubs, what's your opinion on these REAL THUGS? I mean these people at the town hall meetings are just voicing their opinions, how does that compare with these racist THUGS in Philly, intimidating voters with billy clubs?

Wow this is a topic that provokes a LOT of righteous indignation from both sides of the aisle.
The fact is that if you already have health care through your employer, you are sitting fat and sassy and really don't give a damn about anyone who isn't sitting as pretty as you are. And you call the author a hypocrit?

    Oh well.

Your article was almost hilariuos if it wasn't so pathetic. Real people have been fed up with the Obama tidal wave of gov. Intervention and the health care town halls were their chance to be heard. Of course we're angry, we see the daily unraveling of freedom that made this country great. Reread the constitution, the fed. gov. shouldn't be involved in most of this. Were you aginst protests when they were done by someone other than "evil republicans"
