Did Beck's 9-12 protest inspire Census worker's murder?

    Glenn Beck

Did Glenn Beck's 9-12 protest inspire the murder of a US Census worker? A disturbing story is developing concerning the murder, the hanging, of a US Census worker. The worker was found dead, hanging from a tree, the same day as Glenn Beck's 9-12 Tea Party march on Washington D.C. The marchers were angry about many things, the expansion of the Federal Government in particular. The fact that the murdered Census worker was found with the word "Fed" written across his chest raises the inevitable speculations, and investigations.

The slain Census worker, William E. Sparkman Jr., was a 51-year-old single father who once battled Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. Sparkman, from London, Kentucky, worked two jobs while supporting his family. The part-time Census field worker and teacher was found Sept. 12 in a remote patch of the Daniel Boone National Forest in rural southeast Kentucky.

The anger and hate generated by media personalities such as Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh, and politicians such as Joe Wilson and Sarah Palin, is bound to find an outlet that leads to violence and tragedy. It was, and is, only a matter of time.

Words have power, and words have consequences. While Beck may claim to be the silly clown when the chips are down, he is nevertheless guilty of screaming "fire" in a crowded theater. Good people on the left and right have called for Beck and his kind to cease and desist, to end the assault on civility.

Time may or may not tell if Beck had any direct influence in this good man's death. Time may or may not tell if the climate of hate and fear Beck generates influenced this good man's death. Yet the fact remains, a good man is dead.

There is an internet rumor that is spreading like wildfire across the world-wide web. I'm not saying if it's true or false I'm just stating what I heard. The internet meme is that Michael Stone, aka Mikey, aka Stoner, has an unhealthy obsession with Glenn Beck, and will print libelous stories that are totally moronic and tabloid-like in their approach to distort the truth.

I'm glad people are finally starting to call out Glen Beck. He is a racist, hate spewing self promoter who cares nothing for this country. I'm all about free speech, and diverse views, but when this guy calls the president a racist, and spews his hateful rhetoric, why are people surprised at the violent response?
Someone needs to pull the plug on Glen Beck Permanently.

Mr. Stone: Good luck with future columns -- and getting any sort of intelligent response from the nameless (and spineless), conservative minions that like to drink Beck's kool-aid. Having lived as an expatriate twice in my lifetime (now, in Australia; and in the '80s, while in the Army) I can tell you it's embarrassing to see just how many Americans enjoy living lives of fearful desperation (Beck's stock in trade) and willful ignorance. While it is a crime still under investigation, I wont be surprised if it was inspired by the Becks (and Limbaugh's) of America. Even if it was a "suicide" (as one brainless wag suggests), the culture of hate and willful ignorance inspired by the rightwing/conservative movement in America is beyond the pale -- and truly shameful for anyone who loves our country.

"You have blood on your hands Mr. Stone. You are responsible for the hate you sow."

It's always interesting to see how the wing-nut mind works, rather than blaming right-wing pundits and politicians for fanning the flames of hate you blame the people who inspire that hate - liberals.

It's worth noting that the AP wire describes his body as being "decomposed," which would indicate that he had been killed some time before 9/12. (source: it won't let me link, but the ABCnews.com story on the murder is where I read this)

I'm not saying anything about who, or why this crime was committed (i'll leave the speculation up to y'all). Just pointing out that focusing on the day his body was found is misleading.

What tripe! Clay county is the heart of pot country. A much more likely suspect is a pot grower who (shocked and amazed) might not like the government poking around their crop.
Now thats the most likely suspect but the tin foil hatter in me does not put it past the Feds to kill this guy themselves and make it look like a "militia" act. They have the guns to do it. The motivation to do it and the ability to track his moves via his issued GPS device. 6 + 4 =10. See looney left we can do the math too! We shall see what follows. If the BATFU's come out of the woodwork and make this a big fuss then we should start looking in their woodshed for suspects!

The implication that all conservatives hold violent views is simply unfair, regardless of what your political views are. But the fact that the victim had the word "Fed" written on his chest says something terrible about the motivation of the murderer. To my mind, people who verbally encourage this sort of violence should be ashamed of themselves. And people like Rob ("A dead liberal... I feel more sorry for roadkill") are beyond reproach.

It amazes me that this Twit would try to make a connection between, Beck and this murder. I have family in that area and even they don't go poking around the Daniel Boone National forest. There's plenty of them out there. Do a little google on this area and pot growers to see some of the booby traps these guys use up in there.

It's disgusting that anyone would even attempt to make a connection like this. Try putting some logic ahead of your partisan hatred before you make such extreme claims next time, ok? If you knew anything about the area you'd know how much influence, Glenn Beck has up there.
