Climate change skeptics are using hacked emails as propaganda in their campaign to suppress and deny knowledge of anthropogenic climate change. The emails were stolen from a climate research institute in Great Britain. The utilization of hacked emails is just the latest ploy of right wing nuts and other outliers who refuse the reality of anthropogenic (human caused) climate change.
The emails were hacked from the Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia. It is one of the United Kingdom’s leading climate research centers and has been a strong proponent of the position that global warming is real and has human causes.
More than 169 megabytes worth of global-warming emails and related files were hacked. Climate change deniers are at this very moment pouring through the data, pulling quotes and numbers out of context and cherry picking facts and statements in order to make their case against climate change, a case that stands not on science, but on propaganda and denial.
Most U.S. politicians, most citizens, do not question whether humans are changing the world's climate. It is simply accepted as a truth, a truth that is at once both intuitive and unavoidable given the activity of humanity in the last 500 years.
It is sad, and a curious fact of human nature, that a minority of humans, given the opportunity, wind up wearing the proverbial "tin foil hat", and deny what science gives as fact. Public debate will persist. The theft of the emails will simply fuel the delusions and confusions, and perhaps even postpone action that is required now in order to minimize the damage we are doing to our planet.

If global warming is a fact then why wont these scientist have the raw data verified by independent scientists. They chose to hide and delete the raw data so as to propel their beliefs on the worlds people. This is not a game and the elite will use this to tax everyone and it will cause the death of millions. I personally don't believe that global warming is caused by humans but i am open to a honest open investigation to find out if it is. These scientists who wrote these emails are very unethical and criminal in my opinion. This article is total crap as well. Thanks

Is this guy for real! Anyway the scandal grows. The hacked data files are even more damning than the emails (climate audit). Here's a sample:

You can't steal what you paid for. That they were hiding data is horrendous, that they were falsifying data is even worse. People are presenting the emails in there entirety not out of context. Some of the emails, there is no way to read nicely. Intentionally destroying the careers of people with opposing viewpoints, pressuring others not to publish opposing viewpoints and faking data to fit your viewpoints is the work of an Inquisition, not a scientist. They should all resign at the very least and deserve to be criminally prosecuted for defrauding the public.

I was the first journalist in the world to actually pick up the phone and confirm the hack (although it now looks to have been an inside job).
The moment a scientist - any scientist - feels they need to hide inconvenient data is the moment you know their evidence is not strong enough to support the claims they are making.

Given that the raw data is available, i.e. the whole of the email, people can check for themselves the context and see the whole story; contrast that with the data of these researchers which is a closely guarded secret.

To make this statement, I assume you've gone through all of the documents in the 169mb of data. You've given us no facts to dispute the accusations. Perhaps you should put it all in the proper context for us.

When you have something that has been almost entirely confirmed in its authenticity (ie, by some of the folks who created them) that all but clearly spells out fraudulent science regarding a gigantic issue that motivates policy on a global level, shouldn't there be some kind of scrutiny?

It turns out these "hacked" emails WERE NOT hacked but gathered by the British Freedom of Information Act and held back for quite some time. Many of the emails also talk off DELETING such emails BECAUSE of the FOI act.
The "deniers" have been right all along!
