Basic Rights Oregon has launched a pro gay marriage ad campaign throughout the state. The ads are designed to promote conversation about marriage with friends, family and neighbors. The ad is designed to create a path for passing a statewide constitutional amendment approving same-sex marriage in 2012.
The ad shows various couples, straight and gay, offering personal testimonies about the meaning of marriage and marriage equality. The ads began in mid-July and will continue to run into the first week of August.
Basic Rights Oregon, the state's largest gay-rights group, last week began airing 30-second ads on various cable television stations covering Ashland, Cottage Grove, Florence, Eugene, Corvallis, Albany and Coos, Clatsop and Washington counties. The ads are expected to cost several hundred thousand dollars and reach about 300,000 people.
In addition, the group is mailing 50,000 brochures to households within those areas that explain why gay and lesbian couples want to marry.
These ads are what the executive director calls conversation starters for families. Jeana Frazzini says her organization wants to start at the grass-roots level to encourage more residents to support legalizing gay marriage. The television ads show not only gay couples, but husbands and wives.
"Encouraging folks to have the conversation that it's not just same-sex couples who understand the importance of opening up civil marriage," said Frazzini. There are lots and lots of allies who are couples who are married or not who understand that the love that's shared between two people is very much the same."

Homosexuality is not a sin according to the Bible. Any educated Christian would know that. Scholars who have studied the Bible in context of the times and in relation to other passages have shown those passages (Leviticus, Corinthians, Romans, etc) have nothing to do with homosexuality. These passages often cherry-picked while ignoring the rest of the Bible. The sins theses passages are referring to are idolatry, prostitution, and rape, not homosexuality.
