Israel destroying Palestinian homes in violation of International Law

An Israeli Court will decide the fate of the Palestinian farming village of Khan al-Ahmar.  This is so Israeli settlements can be built on these West Bank Palestinian lands.

This is a clear violation of article 49 paragraph 6 of the Fourth Geneva Convention that defines these Israeli settlements as illegal.  The demolition of Palestinian homes is illegal under the Geneva Conventions as well,  which forbids the destruction of private property except when absolutely necessary for military operations.

Regavim, a Right wing settler group has been the lobbying force behind this move.  This would leave 100 Palestinians homeless

A UN report indicates demolition of Palestinian homes is an increasing problem.  They believe as many as 300,000 Palestinians may be made homeless in this manner. This has been largely unreported in the American press despite this study being done by The United Nations Committee for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

On 2/22/10 Richard Miran,  chief Public Information officer for UNSCO stated that, " I would like to see more positive steps by Israel to enable Palestinian development and state building in the area throughout the West Bank, reflecting a genuine commitment to the two state solution."

I think its past time to ask if Israel is even committed to seeing the Palestinians as independent people let alone a two state solution. They have increasingly just appropriated the West Bank or at least the choicest land there even if they must remove the Palestinians from their land.

While Palestine is a long way from Philadelphia it affects us because this part of the world is a flashpoint for the Muslim world. Thus Israel's behavior and our acquiescence in it,  makes us more susceptible to terrorist acts because of our unquestioning support of Israel. Therefore our silence on the destruction of Khan al-Ahmar can mean some attack against Americans somewhere. This should matter to us.

Just as Israel has a right to a homeland so do the Palestinians. You would think the Israeli's of all people would understand this.

Excellent, that you bring light to this... it's been increasing in the last 12-months, as though Israel feels the "free land grab" can't go on much longer - - finally people are saying 'enough is enough'. The West Bank and the Gaza Strip are shrinking so fast, the Palestinians "trapped" there will only radicalize their frustrations into a violent, yet righteous, indignation that the world will have to deal with, and rightfully so. This has been an unjust situation since '67.

This situation has gone on too long. Some action should be taken to prevent further expansion of the Israeli occupation.Am ashamed of the unrealistic stand of USA to not participate on the Palestinians behalf. This is a grave injustice and insult on a people to diabolically terrorize people. And Israel needs to stop misquoting the Bible.Besides in 70AD the temple was destroyed, ridding them of ever able to trace their lineage. The god of Israel had enough of these ungrateful people. He went out into the world to take out a people for his name. The Jews are liars and twist the truth to serve their heartless behaviour.A promise was made to Abrahan because of his relationship with God.That promise no longer is effective.Israel today is certainly not a people today who is cbedient to god or the laws set up forbidding them to stop this lawless behaviour.God doean't like ugliness,so enjoy it while it last.Again USA can't or won't do anything to help because that's exactly how they got their land.

Since everyone likes to go back and twist history and facts; one thing can still be said about the Palestinian/Israeli conflict: In 1948 when all hell broke out between the Jews and Arabs there was a WAR in which many atrocites took place on both sides. The Arab armies lost the war and now the land is in Israeli hands. You cant fight an outnumbered enemy, lose and now claim the land is yours. If you fight you have to accepth the fact that you may lose

The story is another antisemetic propaganda. These are settlements built without permits on the land that belongs to someone (Jewis/Arab). Such illegal settlements are common throughout Israel and the West bank. No permits, no ownership of the land.

You might want to take a look at real history. Originally the land that is not only Israel but West Bank and Gaza all part of what was called Palestine. You might remember your Philestines from the Bible. The British with the Americans help took the land from the Palestinians living there and created the state of Israel. This is what much of the conflict is over. Their Palestinian ancestors were forcibly removed from their lands with no compensation and still today no rights. The town in this article was not the result of squatters many of those displaced for Jewish settlements were from families that had lived there for multiple generations.

You have to know ALL the facts; The British Mandate in Palestine had control of the land there and seperated it out with the jews living in mostly southern Israel or what is mainly the Negev Desert. The Crazy part is that my family is from Northern Israel (Haifa). When the British split the land the Arab nations attacked in protest, Im not even sure how you can call anyone squatters when my own family has been there long before these wars and has lived alongside Arabs peacefully. People need to go there and actually expirence this conflict not just spot out hisorical facts that are all twisted
