They say that the old Yankee Stadium was the House that Ruth Built.

When it comes to another famous New York landmark, Madison Square Garden, you could say that it is the arena the McMahon family helped build.

MSG has hosted some of the top WWE moments over the decades and this past Monday night was no exception.

Less than a week before the annual Survivor Series on Pay-Per-View, the WWE descended on MSG this past Monday night, with Hall-of-Famer "Rowdy" Roddy Piper as the guest host.

While the show may have gotten off to a slow start....it ended with a bang.

The highlight of the night was the six-man tag team match involving DX, Jeri-Show and the tandem of John Cena and The Undertaker, who are both the respective champions on RAW and SmackDown at this time.

The main event was a classic involving six future Hall-of-Famers when all is said and done.

After all the wrestlers delivered their winning moves, or as announcer Michael Cole would call them, vintage moves, Cena and The Undertaker emerged victorious.

In the night's other matches, the following took place:

•United States Championship: The Miz def. MVP

Santino Marella (with Hornswoggle) def. Chavo Guerrero
•Divas Championship: Lumberjill Match: Melina def. Alicia Fox
Jack Swagger def. Evan Bourne Match Quality

As noted earlier, prior to RAW officially getting underway, Piper had a brief edition of Piper’s Pit with actor, Luis Guzman, and a fellow Hall of Famer, The Iron Sheik. Guzman would eventually get under the skin of Sheik when he mentioned Hulk Hogan, which led to Sheik going into one of his tirades about “The Hulkster”.

Later in the night, Piper called out WWE Chairman Vincent Kennedy McMahon and said his career would not be complete unless he got to take on Mr. McMahon in the squared circle. After some time, McMahon had a surprise in store for Piper.

Expecting McMahon to come out later in the evening, Piper had a stunned look on his face as former champ Randy Orton instead appeared. Orton roughed up Piper and was ready to "punt" the Hall-of-Famer into the night when Kofi Kingston arrived.

Kingston and Orton went at it for some time, with Kingston eventually taking out Orton on a table after jumping off a railing in the stands.

One other highlight of the night was a video tribute to some of the great performers who had stepped in the ring at MSG over the years.

MSG has played host to the likes of Hogan, Andre the Giant, Bret Hart, Harley Race, Superfly Snuka, Bruno Sammartino, The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin and countless others over the years.

If WWE wanted to set the stage for a big week leading into Survivor Series, visiting MSG Monday night was a great way to do it.
