What is the purpose of having the TNA Legend's Title on Kevin Nash?

TNA Question 16; I’ve posted 20 questions on WWE, TNA and the Indies, inviting readers to answer. Now, I’ll be posting some reader response and commenting on what I think the answer is to each question. Feel free to continue to post responses on any question after the one I’ve already answered (I’ll be going in order). The awesome Andy Wheeler replied to all 20 questions over on Pulse Wrestling. No one knows more about the WWE mindset than Wheeler, so be sure to give him a read. Let’s get going with the next TNA question:

16. If Kevin Nash is such a big deal, why does he have the mid-card belt, the Legends title? Also, is that the worst named title in wrestling?

Nash is an entertaining persona to have on TV. Why does he have The Legends title? Not sure. He doesn't need it. It’s not a big deal that he has it. He shouldn't have the world title. Certain guys should be phased out of that spot and he is one of them. The days of Hogan are done. The days of Flair are done. The only 'old' guys that hold titles these days are guys who can GO in the ring.” – Thomas

So, since Nash can’t go and he doesn’t draw, he shouldn’t have a title.

The Mafia has to have all the belts, even the ones they just made up to amuse themselves. Really, the fact that Nash is still wrestling makes me sad. There's your next great manager right there.” – Brad Curran

Nash having the Legends title did give the Mafia all the belts, but since AJ Styles has the World Title, Nash having the Legends does nothing.  As a manager, he’s have a purpose.  As a title holder?

Because he’s not a big deal.  If he was he would be getting title shots and he’s not had one of those in years. The legends belt is a different concept, reserved for an exclusive set of wrestlers (mostly older ones). It’s not a bad idea but I can’t see a big lifespan for it working well.” - Sayne

If he’s not a big enough deal to get the title over, he isn’t over enough to draw, and he isn’t having good matches, then why the hell does he have the title?  The Legends belt as a separate title for older wrestlers might work, but then it needs its own division and to be kept away from normal, in their prime, wrestlers.  Nash has it because he’s not good enough for the World Title, but he is old, then what does it say about AJ having it?  The belt makes absolutely no sense as currently being used and isn’t even a logical prop.

TNA needs a good mid-card title.  A good mid-card title is simple and effective to utilize, though Kevin Nash should still not be near it.  The World Title is occupied, but several new talents are attempting to climb the card and get over.  Guys like Eric Young, Hernandez, Bashir and even Booker T could hold and feud over this belt to give them a simple feud while they wait for the top of the card to open up.  The belt has the added benefit of adding importance to all of these feuds and, if well handled, the always big drawing title vs. title match down the line.  The Legends title is instead on poor wrestlers who gain nothing from it, but make the title look bad, without even keeping young stars busy and looking impressive.  Time to retire the Legends belt and transition to a logical Intercontinental title.

The thing I hate the most about the Legends title is that it reminds me of what TNA could have done. The Legends title should have been built up for months during the MEM/young guys feud as something that couldn't be touched by any of the younger guys. One of the younger guys should have won it and destroyed it, basically spitting on it, signalling the beginning of the end for the MEM. The faces stick together, kick some ass, and take their company back, disbanding or seriously damaging the MEM. Maybe I'm not thinking in the long-term enough, but it feels like it should have been as simple as that. Now the belt is still around and we never really got an ending to the feud. AND the people that still watch the show have to deal with Nash's wrestling and Booker's nonsense week after week after week.

I remember they played up AJ winning it as a big, game changing part of the MEM/Front Line feud. Just before they gave up on the Front Line as a stable.
