We’ve been covering Evolve Wrestling, the new promotion booked by Gabe Sapolsky of Ring of Honor and Dragon Gate USA fame, since their inception. There’s a ton more big news about the company. Take a moment to catch up with all the early news from the company, as well as the first three wrestlers to join Davey Richards on the Evolve Wrestling Roster. Now, we have even more news and new wrestlers for this unique new promotion.
First of all, we have a date for the very first Evolve Wrestling show. On 1/16/2010, in Rahway, New Jersey at the Rahway Rec Center, Evolve will be born. Tickets can be purchased here and are $50 for front row, $35 for second row, and $25 for third row. Secondly, there will be a Japanese branch of Evolve, which likely means top talent coming over.
Next, we have a ton of new talent. Let’s look through the list, with video of matches.
1. Brad Allen - formerly Brad Attitude of FIP, he’s got potential, but hasn’t shown a ton yet.
2. Arik Cannon - Cannon is one of the bigger names on the indies to not be in ROH. He’s a Midwest star who had stints in IWA-MS and Chikara. He can be a very good heel, but often falls in love with mat wrestling to the detriment of matches. With a clear purpose, “The Anarchist” could be a breakout star.
3. Kyle O’Reilly - The Canadian protégé of Davey Richards, he’s been working ECCW, NWA, and WAR, views wrestling as an artform. He looks to make people to wrestling seriously and draw fans into matches, which sounds like exactly what Evolve Wrestling needs.
4. The Dark City Fight Club of Kory Chavis and Jon Davis - Two big bad brawler dudes who mess people up, DCFC have been featured in both FIP and Ring of Honor. Now they will join Evolve’s tag division.
4. Chuck Taylor - The controversial Taylor’s inclusion in Evolve was put to a vote. 67% of the voters said he should be a part of Evolve, so he will get a qualifying match to prove that’s the case and earn a place on the roster. Taylor is a pure heel who screams like a girl and makes kids cry with his bullying. Could he take the next step in his career in a serious promotion?
Finally, there are two more potential roster spots open with hints as to who will fill them. The hints are “waiting for a response from Japan” and “another impressive hidden gem.” Guesses for the second spot seem to center around Arya Daivari, a Minnesota wrestler, and Jimmy Rave, for some name value. The first spot has yielded two guesses most frequently- Prince Devitt, the New Japan junior who’s among the best in the world, and Karl Anderson, the PWG regular who has been touring New Japan for the last several years. Both would be excellent additions. Of course, a Japanese talent is possible, with guesses ranging form Masato Tanaka to Miyamoto to Kota Ibushi.
That’s all from Evolve for now. Check back tomorrow to see who Davey Richards will face on the first show and stay tuned for all your Evolve Wrestling updates!
