TNA Bound for Glory 2009 Preview, 10/18/09

TNA’s bigest Pay Per View, Bound for Glory, airs in just a few hours. Is the show worth it? Let’s preview and figure it out!

TNA World Title Match: AJ Styles © vs. Sting

Why it’s happening: AJ Styles was ready to walk away from wrestling when Sting brought him back. Sting became something like AJ’s mentor, talking him into the four-way title match with Kurt Angle, Matt Morgan, and Sting, then helping him win the title at that show. Now, in what might be Sting’s last match, AJ Styles faces his mentor for the title at the biggest TNA show of the year, where Sting has never lost.

What should happen: AJ Styles should defeat and retire Sting from active competition utilizing the Scorpion Deathlock and making it his own. From there on, Sting, if willing, should be AJ’s mentor and manager.

What will happen: AJ Styles will win in a good match and Sting will say he’s retired only to come out of retirement and save AJ from Kurt Angle in the coming months.

Kurt Angle vs. Matt Morgan

Why it’s happening: Matt Morgan wanted to be in Kurt Angle’s stable, the Main Event Mafia, but when that constantly meant Morgan giving up opportunities to better Angle, he decided to take out the head of the Mafia himself.

What should happen: Matt Morgan should go over strong here, looking great against TNA’s top wrestler.

What will happen: Kurt Angle will likely win here in a hard-won battle, before going on to face AJ again for the World Title.

MMA vs. Pro Wrestling: Lashley vs. Samoa Joe

Why it’s happening: Lashley came into TNA as a big deal and Joe likes fighting guys who do that, apparently. Joe’s been attacking Lashley at every opportunity and Lashley has hurt ribs.

What should happen: Billing this as MMA vs. Wrestling means Joe should come out with the big win, otherwise the whole promotion looks bad.

What will happen: The company will throw the full promotions weight behind Lashley, who will beat Samoa Joe and continue his march towards the World Title. If Joe can’t get a good match out of Lashley, he’s hopeless as a wrestler, though, so TNA must be careful.

Monster’s Ball: Mick Foley vs. Abyss with Dr. Stevie as a guest referee

Why it’s happening: Foley has decided the bumbling Abyss is a knockoff of Foley’s whole career, so he wants to teach him a lesson. Dr. Stevie hates Abyss and has been manipulating people against him for weeks.

What should happen: Abyss should, in a crazily violent match, wreck Foley and Stevie, putting this feud to bed and emerging as a dangerous monster once more.

What will happen: Foley will manage to get the big win here, though Abyss will “retain heat” by beating up on Stevie. The match will still be extraordinarily violent.

Full Metal Mayhem for TNA and IWGP Tag Team Titles: Beer Money, Inc vs. Team 3-D vs. The British Invasion vs. Scott Steiner and Booker T

Why it’s happening: The Invasion and Steiner/Booker were allies when their stables, the World’s Elite and The Main Event Mafia, respectively, had a falling out. These two teams hold the IWGP (New Japan) and TNA Tag Titles, respectively, so they will face their main opponents, Team 3-D and Beer Money, Inc in a tables, ladders, chairs and chains match for all the gold.

What should happen: Beer Money is the most over act in the company and should take the titles and keep them for a good, long time.

What will happen: Team 3-D gets their specialty match, so they probably win despite no one wanting to see them with all the titles again. It will at least make New Japan happy, as they booked Team 3-D to win the IWGP Tag Titles in the first place.

TNA Legends Title Match: Kevin Nash © vs. Eric Young vs. Hernandez

Why it’s happening: Eric Young cost Hernandez his shot at the World Title, now they will go after Nash’s Legends Title.

What should happen: This Pay Per View should be the end of the Mafia, with them losing all their matches, and, as such, Hernandez should knock Nash out and beat on Eric Young to get revenge and win the title.

What will happen: Kevin Nash will politic his way into stealing a win, while Young and Hernandez will continue their feud.

Ultimate X for the X-Division Title: Amazing Red © vs. Homicide vs. Daniels vs. D’Angelo Dinero vs. Suicide

Why it’s happening: Red was just thrown into this match last minute, but this one is all about a stunt show for the gold.

What should happen: Red just got the title and Don West as a manager. This should be given time to develop before the title is moved.

What will happen: There’s a worry that Dinero wins here, as TNA isn’t known for waiting to pull the trigger with former WWE talent, but West is too well-liked to be paired with Red just so he can lose.

TNA Women’s Tag Team Titles: Taylor Wilde and Sarita © vs. The Beautiful People

Why it’s happening: The Beautiful People lost last month in the finals of a tag tournament to Wilde and Sarita, but now they have Lacey Von Erich and are a Freebirds type trio and want the titles.

What should happen: The Beautiful People should win or their new gimmick isn’t going to be much use.

What will happen: Pretty much what should happen.

TNA Women’s Title: ODB © vs. Awesome Kong vs. Tara

Why it’s happening: ODB and Tara have been having issues lately (arguing when they were a tag team) and Kong is the top contender, so we get a three way.

What should happen: ODB and Tara should eliminate each other, then get into a feud without the belt, which should be taken in a new direction by Kong.

What will happen: Tara will win and feud with ODB over the title.

Is the show worth buying: That depends on what you want- there will be lots of spots and uber-violence with a fast pace. Guys will bleed and fall from incredible heights. If that’s what you want, get this show and you’ll be sure to love it. As far as the rest of us, there don’t look to be any great matches and no guaranteed story blowoffs besides the tag titles, so despite the size of the show, it’s probably a skip.
