ROHWrestling.com is announcing a change to their September 26, Glory by Honor VIII show. The card, which is to be the last for both Bryan Danielson and Nigel McGuinness before they head to WWE will now feature both men against each other. They have previously wrestled eight times in Ring of Honor. Here's a breakdown of their previous encounters.
AtWeekend of Champions Night 2 on 4/29/06, we saw McGuinness defeat Danielson by countout in a Pure Rules, ROH World Title match. That Nigel won by countout made his Pure Title safe, but kept the World Title on Danielson. Nigel goes up 1-0 in their series. **** 1/4
At Generation Now, 7/29/06 Nigel again challenged for the World Title, but this time was caught by surprise with a Small Package as Danielson made the series even. ****
Danielson and McGuinness again met on 8/12/06 to unify their titles at a show aptly titled Unified. This is their best encounter to date and they absolutely tore into each other in England, with Danielson barely retaining the title to go up 2-1. **** 3/4
Nigel McGuinness, now title-less, challenged Danielson for his World Title for the last time in a two out of three falls match at The Epic Encounter II on 8/25/06. Danielson held out for an hour, forcing the match to a draw to retain his World Title, setting the series at 2-1-1. ****
From here, they didn't battle for quite awhile until 6/9/07, which was a number one contenders match taped for the Driven Pay per View. This is their second best match, the first time they both met as faces, and again Danielson prevailed to go up 3-1-1 in their series and become the number one contender. **** 3/4
Danielson, it turns out, failed as number one contender, but McGuinness didn't, as he dethroned Takeshi Morishima. His next encounter with Danielson, however, wasn't for the title. He faced Danielson as part of a tournament at Survival of the Fittest 2007 on 10/19/07 and they went to a 20-minute draw in their weakest encounter, which was still very good, leaving them at 2-1-2. *** 1/2
The next match would be for the world title, on 2/23/08 at the 6th Anniversary Show. At this show, Nigel would goad Danielson into not using head attacks, then use those same attacks to get the win and turn heel, tying their series at 2-2-2. **** 1/2
In Japan, at Battle of the Best, 9/13/08, the two would fore-go titles and put on a technical clinic with Danielson coming out ahead and earning a title shot, ahead in the series 3-2-2. **** 1/4
On 11/22/08, they had their most recent encounter, a title shot at the Rising Above II Pay per View. This one had Nigel come out ahead with the jawbreaker lariat, as they finished their feud over Nigel's World Title with an even series at 3-3-2. **** 1/2
Now, on September 26, in the Grand Ballroom in New York City, they will face one another for the final time in Ring of Honor, with one man having the potential to win their feud once and for all.
