WWE Survivor Series '09 results: World Heavyweight Championship

The Undertaker (c) v. Chris Jericho v. The Big Show in a triple threat match for the World Heavyweight Championship

A short video package sets up this match as Jericho makes his way to the ring first. Jericho and Big Show are of course Unified Tag Team Championship partners, which should play into the story of the match. Color commentator Matt Striker helpfully reminds us all that Big Show won a triple threat like this ten years at Survivor Series to win the WWF Championship. Undertaker of course gets a great, long entrance as the announcers go silent in awe of his arrival. It was nineteen years ago this month at this event that Undertaker made his WWF debut.

Not surprisingly Jericho and Big Show start the match by double-teaming Undertaker. It spills to the outside very quickly as the Tag Champs put the hurt on Taker by the ringside tables. Back in the ring Jericho and Show take their time pounding on Undertaker. Undertaker responds by sending Jericho shoulder first into the ring post and taking down Big Show. Undertaker keeps up the offense by sending Show head first into the ring post outside the ring.

With Show down Taker begins working on Jericho one-on-one. Jericho blocks the Old School rope walk and hits Taker with a superplex as both men are down. Jericho keeps it up by putting Undertaker in the Lion Tamer. Big Show uses this as his opening to chokeslam Jericho and to prevent Undertaker from tapping out. Show then goes to chokeslam Taker but gets caught in a DDT. All three men are out on their backs on the mat.

Back up Taker and Show get into a mid-ring slugfest and then both try to chokeslam each other. Jericho breaks it up by clocking Show with one of the Championship belts. Undertaker, now in control, kicks Show to the ring floor and looks to hit Jericho with the Last Ride powerbomb. As he lifts Jericho up, he gets clocked in the face with the World Championship belt.

The Undertaker then catches Big Show in the Hell’s Gate submission hold and gets the tap out victory to retain the World Championship.

Winner (and still Champion) – The Undertaker
