WWE Slammy Awards '09 results

Last night, WWE held the 2009 edition of the Slammy Awards as the backdrop for a three hour RAW held live in Corpus Christi, Texas. A highly entertaining Dennis Miller hosted the show live, which fit right in with RAW’s current guest hosting gimmick.

The Slammys were originated in 1986 and were brought back to life last year. Last night’s show was much like last year’s, with a nice little red carpet podium and platform on top of the entrance stage just right of the wrestlers’ entrance. Miller hosted with quips and mini monologues while WWE talent presented the actual awards. The actual wrestling for the night again took a backseat to the comedy and pageantry.

Much like in years past all awards were presented in good, campy fun with no actual ballots released or votes being counted. It was all done in good fun to further current storylines, start new feuds and enhance character profiles. The Grammys or the Oscars could stand to learn a thing or two from The Slammys.

Match Results: ECW Champion Christian, Kane & The Great Khali beat William Regal, Vladimir Kozlov & Ezekiel Jackson when Khali pinned Kozlov.
Kofi Kingston versus Cody Rhodes was changed to a tag team match when Ted DiBiase interfered on Rhodes’ behalf and Evan Bourne made the save for Kingston. In the tag match Rhodes & DiBiase beat Kingston & Bourne when Rhodes pinned Bourne.
