Exclusive Examiner.com interview with the legendary Harley Race

I had the privilege of talking with Harley Race about the following topics: How good David Von Erich really was, the 1979 Handicap match vs. David and Fritz Von Erich, wrestling in St. Louis, the Harley Race wrestling camp, wrestling in Japan, and why he trains people.

Should Wrestlers go to Japan?
“Wrestlers should definitely go to Japan."
"They are very structured and disciplined. Great experience.”

Harley’s Wrestling Camp
"It’s a chance to be seen by WWE and NOAH. It runs from September 28 to October 2. "
Harley's camp will also have Bret Hart as a featured guest.
Ricky Steamboat will be in attendance as a representative for the WWE.

Why do you train people?
“I do it because of my love for the business."
"I want to see these kids advance in their future; see their dreams come true.”

Can you tell me a little bit about wrestling in St. Louis?
"St. Louis was the capital for the NWA."
"We never went to the Kiel without selling out and having about 10,000 people."

Can you compare working at KPLR studios and the Kiel?
"Matches were about the same at KPLR studios."
"But the crowds at the Kiel were 100 times better."

Can you share your thoughts about your feud with David Von Erich?
"David continued to improve."
"He was destined to be in the wrestling business."

Harley's memories on the 1979 handicap match vs. David Von Eric and Fritz Von Erich

Do you think David could have been the NWA Champ?
"He would have definitely been NWA Champion. "

How was David compared to his brothers?
"David was the best of the Von Erichs."
