For over two decades, WWE’s Survivor Series has been a Thanksgiving staple for any wrestling fan.
Turkey and bodyslams have gone hand in hand for the holiday week. Starting in 1987, Survivor Series has seen team of wrestlers take to the ring to see who will survive to the end of the evening. The pay-per-view came on the heels of a very successful WrestleMania III and lead to the Royal Rumble the following year.
This year’s pay-per-view will have a touch of tradition added to the rest of the card.
The ladies are starting off the evening with a ten diva traditional Survivor Series match with Team Mickie taking on Team Michelle. Mickie James heads her team with Eve Torres, Kelly Kelly, Divas champion Melina and Gail Kim. While Team Michelle’s Jillian Hall, Beth Phoenix, Layla, and Alicia Fox will be lead by Women’s Champion Michelle McCool.
To mix the card up, the WWE Champion John Cena will defend his title against Triple H and Shawn Michaels. Will Cena’s seventh title reign be ended short by one of the two former champions? Or will DX have a kink in their armor found? Either way, the multi-time champions will have a memorable match.
Team Morrison vs. Team Miz will be the next traditional match. The former tag team champions, John Morrison and The Miz have been having a serious “Who’s The Man?” competition over the last couple months. With both men being champions on their respective shows, now the men want to prove who can lead a winning team. John Morrison will lead Matt Hardy, Evan Bourne, Shelton Benjamin, and Finlay while Miz will lead Drew McIntyre, Sheamus, Dolph Ziggler and Jack Swagger.
Kofi Kingston will be leading the next team in this match when he will lead Mark Henry, MVP, R-Truth and ECW Champion Christian. Former WWE Champion Randy Orton will captain his legends in training team with CM Punk, Cody Rhodes, Ted DiBiase and William Regal.
The only singles match of the night will see two former friends turned foes take to the ring with Batista taking on Rey Mysterio. Just after the last pay-per-view, Batista shocked the wrestling fans when he turned on his former tag team partner. However, Mysterio isn’t one to just roll over and die, the 5’3” former champion will bring on more than his foe may be aware is in the small frame.
World Heavyweight gold will be the main event for the 23rd annual Survivor Series. Wrestling fans know that this isn’t the Undertaker’s first rodeo, so to speak. Having made his debut at the 1990 Survivor Series, the Undertaker has been a force to be reckoned with ever since. Now, the Deadman will have his hands full with the Unified Tag Team Champions of The Big Show and Chris Jericho in a triple-threat match for ‘Taker’s World Heavyweight Title. Will gold come between the tag champions? Only tonight will tell.
WWE will present Survivor Series on pay-per-view and on webcast tonight at 7:00 p.m. central time
