Captain Lou Albano passed away at the age of 76.
On Wednesday, news had been released that the former World Wrestling Entertainment manager had died. The cause of his death has not been released.
“Captain Lou” was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 1996. He performed for WWE from 1983 to 1996," WWE released in a statement Wednesday. "Albano began his storied career with Vincent J. McMahon in the 1960’s as one half of “The Sicilians” tag team with his partner, Tony Altimore."
Many fans will remember the managerial skills that Captain Lou brought ringside. From his excentric fashion style to his flamboyant interviews, Albano was one in a million.
He also branched away from wrestling into entertainment with Cyndi Lauper and her 80's video "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" and to movies including Body Slam! with fellow WWE Hall of Famer Rowdy Roddy Piper.
While he was hated by the fans, the wrestlers had many positive memories, including Handsome Jimmy Valient.
"The Captain, Luscious Johnny Valiant and myself got together in 1974 and won the World Wide Wrestling Federation Tag Team Championship soon thereafter," Valient revealed on wwe.com. "The Captain had a whistle around his neck when we all came to the ring, and he drove the fans crazy with the constant blowing of it, which was meant to be signals for Johnny and myself to take it up a notch. Lou actually drove us crazy with it as well, yet it was for all the right reasons."
