UFL announces New York team name and surprise venues

At a press conference in New York City on Thursday morning, the United Football League made it official, revealing the name of the NY franchise will be the Sentinels. Although the name had been leaked previously by media outlets, what hadn't been known was the stunner that came with the announcement of the venues.

The Sentinels will now play a home game at Giants Stadium and at CitiField, the new home of the New York Mets.

Previously it was announced that the three home games would be played at Hofstra (on Long Island), at Rentschler Field in Hartford, Conn., and one game was TBA. Hofstra is now out of the mix with CitiField hosting the game between the Sentinels and Las Vegas Locomotives on Wednesday, Nov. 4. The California Redwoods are the opponent for the Giants Stadium game on Thursday, Oct. 29 and the Florida Tuskers will be the visitor at Rentschler Field in Hartford on Thursday, Nov. 12.

If it's happening in a league where they get paid to play, Andrew is covering it. NFL, CFL, UFL, USFL, AFL (if it still exists) -- keep it right...

Does that mean Hartford is out of the mix too? I thought that that was an important site for the UFL to hold a game being that they are trying to get a franchise there for 2010.

Also, the blip on the slideshow says that these uni's will only be used for the premiere season, and that there will be new ones next year (if there is a next year). Why would they spend all this time creating these uniforms if they are only going to change them next year. I understand that they incorporated the league logo's colors into all four teams uni's as sort of a marketing tool. How about some sense of continuity?

    Hi TheUpstart,
Thanks for the comments. The third graph of the article has been updated to include the correct information about Hartford.
    Thanks again!
