SAN FRANCISCO -

The trial for San Francisco Supervisor Ed Jew has been postponed from Sept. 28 until Oct. 26.

A San Francisco Superior Court judge this morning granted attorney Bill Fazio's request to postpone the trial because of the large amount of evidence he needs to review, Fazio said.

Over prosecution objection, the trial was postponed until Oct. 26 at 9 a.m., Fazio said.

Fazio said after the hearing that he has more than 9,000 pages of evidence and 86 named prosecution witnesses to review.

Jew was arraigned Aug. 20 after a judge ruled during a preliminary hearing that the evidence against him was serious enough to stand trial on felony charges.

Prosecutors say Jew falsely claimed residency in San Francisco and lied on official documents leading up to his successful bid for a seat on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 2006.
