WASHINGTON -

Seoul-based Samsung will build Sprint Nextel’s WiMax network in New York, Reston-based Sprint announced Monday.

Samsung had already been charged with building out Xohm, Sprint’s pending high-speed broadband network, in D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia, Boston and Providence, R.I., Sprint spokesman John Polivka said Monday.

“This is sort of a northeast corridor assignment for them,” Polivka said.

Financial details of the arrangement were not disclosed. Sprint announced earlier this month that it will invest $5 billion in the Xohm network over the next few years.

The New York network is scheduled to come online during the fourth quarter of 2008. D.C. will be the first area to receive the service, expected by the end of this year.

Nokia, which has a U.S. base in Texas, has Sprint Xohm assignments in the southwest, while Chicago-based Motorola is charged with building out Xohm in the upper Midwest.

Samsung could not be reached for comment as of press time.
