City Hall: City health care plan’s enrollment up to 1,000
SAN FRANCISCO -
San Francisco is slowly rolling out a new program intended to ensure that every San Franciscan has access to affordable health care. The City has an estimated 82,000 uninsured residents. On Tuesday, Mayor Gavin Newsom announced that the first 1,000 uninsured residents have been enrolled in the new program, called Healthy San Francisco. Next month, the program will continue to enroll low-income patients at city health clinics, those whose incomes do not exceed the federal poverty line. In 2008, The City plans to expand the program to include all other residents. The new equipment — which is fully operational, but going through “final tweaks,” according to spokeswoman Mary Currie — will improve the ability of the Golden Gate Transportation District to monitor transactions and traffic, and determine the number of FasTrak lanes required at any given time.
