City Hall: Response to Critical Mass set for tonight
SAN FRANCISCO -
The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition’s Critical Manners, a response to the sometimes-unruly Critical Mass bike ride that sweeps city streets on the last Friday of every month, is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. at the northeast corner of Larkin and Grove streets. The event will consist of a large group practicing orderly conduct and riding in bike lanes. Critical Mass bike rides, a monthly occurrence which has no predetermined route, have been relatively calm since a ride in March saw a cyclist throwing a bike through a Peninsula family’s car window, putting the ride in the spotlight and creating tension between drivers and The City’s bicycling community. GOLDEN GATE PARKMajority surveyed say no social services offered More than half of respondents to a Coalition on Homelessness survey of Golden Gate Park residents said they had never been offered social services, the coalition reported Thursday. The coalition reported that 57 percent of those surveyed said they had never been offered services by The City. The total number of survey respondents was unavailable, but the coalition reported that 44 percent of respondents said they had lived in the park for three years or more. COASTAL COMMISSIONGroup expected to call for regulation of invasive species At the final day of an ongoing meeting of the California Coastal Commission, the Bay Area Farallones Marine Sanctuary Association is expected to call for strong regulations to control invasive species in sanctuary ecosystems. The commission has been meeting since Wednesday at the Hyatt Regency hotel, 5 Embarcadero Center, in San Francisco.
