City Hall: Bill introduced to spur workers to use transit
SAN FRANCISCO -
Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi has introduced legislation that would require city businesses with 10 or more employees to offer benefits to encourage employees to use public transit or van pools. The legislation would require these businesses either to offer their employees a choice of three options to comply with the ordinance. The options include the employer setting up a program that allows employees to use their pretax wages to purchase Muni Fast Passes, which cost $45; employers supplying the transit passes; or employers providing a van pool service for workers. Supes approve salary bump for city contract workers A Board of Supervisors committee approved legislation on Wednesday that would increase the salaries of workers employed by city contractors. The ordinance will mostly impact those employed by nonprofits in a contact with The City for social service needs. The legislation would require an annually adjusted wage increase based no the consumer price index, whereas in the past there were no automatic increases. The Board of Supervisors is expected to vote on the legislation Tuesday, at 2 p.m., at City Hall, Room 250.
