Bryans capture third straight doubles crown
WASHINGTON -
Bob and Mike Bryan, the world's top-ranked doubles team, took home their third consecutive Legg Mason doubles title Sunday, defeating Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 10-7. Down 5-4 in the first set, the Bryans broke Erlich¹s serve for the only time in the match to pull even. They won four of the last five tie-break points to take the set. In the final set -- a first-to-10 tie-break instead of the traditional scoring -- the Bryans never trailed. With the win, they improved their record to 10-4 against Erlich and Ram. It was the brothers' 41st title since 2001. They have five grand slam titles and completed the career grand slam with a victory at Wimbledon in 2006. Even with the immense success, each win is still special. "We don't take these titles for granted," Mike Bryan said. "It still feels really good." |
