City Hall: Newsom to discuss Muni

Mayor Gavin Newsom will hold his next “community discussion” in The City’s District 3, which encompasses Chinatown and North Beach and Fisherman’s Wharf, on Saturday, June 30. Newsom will discuss The City’s efforts to improve Muni service, as well as the plan to build a Central Subway by 2016. The discussion will also include what The City is doing to increase pedestrian and bicycle safety.

The community discussion will be held at 10 a.m. June 30 at the Jean Parker Elementary School, 840 Broward at Powell Street.

Panhandle bandshell, made of recycled parts, set to open

A temporary bandshell for acoustic performances in Golden Gate Park Panhandle will have its grand opening celebration Saturday. Made of used car hoods, computer circuit panels and plastic water bottles, the bandshell was created by the Black Rock Arts Foundation, funded in part by a $50,000 grant from the San Francisco Department of the Environment.

Located just west of the Clayton Street crossing, the bandshell will be up until Sept. 10. Saturday’s debut event will start at noon and feature kids and family-oriented programming, including music and dance.

Healthy San Francisco draft rules available online

The San Francisco Department of Public Health has developed draft regulations to govern The City’s new Healthy San Francisco affordable health program, available to all San Franciscans.

The regulations are available online at www.sfhp.org/HealthySan

Francisco/reports/. Copies can also be picked up at 101 Grove St., Room 308, during weekday hours. On July 17, the San Francisco Health Commission will consider the draft regulations for adoption at a public hearing.
