SAN FRANCISCO -

Several gun-control measures will go before the Board of Supervisors Public Safety Committee on Monday before being heard by the full board.

The array of proposed new laws would prohibit the possession or sale of firearms or ammunition on county property, require that firearms located within a residence be kept in a locked container or secured with a trigger lock, require dealers to inventory firearms every six months and create a local registry of gun offenders convicted within The City.

The meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m., at City Hall, Room 263.

Schools awarded state grants for community meetings

Two San Francisco public schools have received state grants for holding community meetings and implementing programs where teachers visit students’ homes to strengthen communication lines and improve academic achievement.

John O’Connell High School of Technology will receive $30,000 and Sanchez Elementary School will receive $15,000 from the state Department of Education Teacher Involvement Program, which awarded 196 campuses a total of $4.24 million Thursday. Half of the teachers and families in both schools had to agree to participate in home visits to receive the grants.
